been on my mind for a while. i cant think of two guitarists more equal in skill, but ill say friedman because i prefer his style

jesus, LoTO, inquire UM abouit a VS. thread forum, Im tired of these, Im sorry, enoughs a fucking nough.

How about you just enjoy each guitarists individuality, creativity, and haircuts as each their own, instead of, well, I lke HIM but HES better, thats horse shit. There will NEVER be a winner, because opinion is never right nor wrong.

So therefore this is not a VS battle, more of an opinion war for all you <happy words>

Love Always,

I haven't heard any of marty's stuff :(

Maybe we'll get a chance to see the two share the stage,,,,marty for g3 anyone?

Wasn't there a rumor about Michael Romeo on G3? Yngwie was on last year (I think) and that is hilarious. Yngwie is a great guitarist but doesn't seem like the kind of guy who would want to share the stage with two other brilliant guitarists. He is good at guitar but is a pompous ass.
Anyway, Mike R. on G3 would kick a lot of ass since he's the best in prog metal (that's final, nobody say anything about Petrucci!).

I agree with you, Toten, he is one of the best out there. I like Petrucci ... if only he'd learn that blazing up and down the fretboard 200 miles an hour doesn't always get it, nor does it always impress. Simplicity is what shows true genius when one is well aware that they are more than capable to keep up with the best, yet put together some of the most emotive and compassionate simple rhythm and solo work together. And I'm speaking in general, not about Romeo.

And that's when my vote goes to David Gilmour. No, he couldn't come close to touching most of the guys in a technical sense we discuss on these forums, yet he assrapes them all. And I'm more of an obsessive perfectionist who works on nothing but technical skill every chance that I get (which is often), but Gilmour is special. I don't know who said it, though I know it was one of the guys on these forums on David Gilmour: "The man can do more with three notes than most can do with thirty". Excellent point.

Even though Petrucci can get amazingly obnoxious (yet not as severe as his fellow band member, Portnoy) his work with Liquid Tension Experiment is outstanding.

I know you're overreacting, but he already learned that about 13 years ago. why don't you take a listen to solo's in Another Day, Learning to Live, Lines in the Sand, Goodnight Kiss etc.

I have listened to those solos and was fond of them. "Images and Words" in my opinion is the band's best observation, "Another Day" and "Learning To Live" both possess quite impressive solos. But, they're a minority. Have you heard "Train of Thought", man? I am sure you have and it is by far their worst effort along with his. "Osmosis" has some decent guitarwork where he decided blazing through a song didn't work each time, though "Paradigm Shift" is one of those songs that shredding like a maniac works well along with "Universal Mind".
I have nothing against Dream Theater or Petrucci, he especially has been an inspiration for me and he has some great intructional dvds.

wow i wish i could keep up with u guys in this discussion lol but i cant so im just say that i worship petrucci... even tho ive heard much better shit come from Romeo. Petrucci is fast as ass, which is why hes my god, something to look up to.. but it does get fuckin irritating when all u hear from the guy is a blur of notes... look at accolade2.. jeezus christ, thats about as slow as it comes, but its some of the deepest riffs ive ever heard.. if only petrucci would come out with some shit like like that :erk: ....
