I'm looking at buying a cab,
but I need something for under $500 (NZ)
All I can find are bass cabs and guitar ones that are quite shallow.
I play in drop A, and need something that can handle A LOT of low end.
There are a few cheap bass cabs I've seen, mostly Bugera ones with Aluminium
cone speakers, or Ashdown ones. The Ashdown bass cab is 450 watts with a tweeter and the operating frequency is from 60 hz to 20khz.
I've heard that bass cabs are good for low tunings, but don't do so well with higher frequencies, so I was wondering what it would be like if I had two guitar (K-100, V30 or Swamp Thang) and two bass speakers in an X configuration.
Maybe remove the crossover and tweeter, widen the top right and bottom left
holes to 12 inches and put speakers in. One thing I like about that cab is that it's very deep.

I've never heard of people mixing bass and guitar speakers into a single cab, but it might be possible with a bit of tweaking. Might be a cool idea to build your own cabinet with two 12 inch speakers, and an extra 15 inch speaker below. You can pick up V30's for ~$150 AUD, total project budget would need to be at least $700 for materials (inc wood and speakers, etc).

I wish I could afford to do that. I'd love to make an oversize cab at some point. I really just want some extra low end punch
and the ability to use it as a bass or guitar cab depending on the input.
