does anyone know any of any tips to making your electric guitar sound like a bass to come close the a bass tone for recording? i pretty much just use my neck humbucker and beef it up a bit on my guitar then run it through a bass amp model on pod farm. its alright but does anyone else ever try this or is it just me?

It depresses me how often this topic comes up. Obviously Arv has already got this covered but I will go on my usual rant and say if you want a bass guitar sound then BUY A BASS! Go on ebay and find the cheapest bass you can and use that. It will sound so much better than a guitar tuned down an octave (because remember, all your string/fretting noise etc is getting dropped an octave too)
Make friends with a bassist and borrow his bass. You could even get your bassist friend to play bass on your stuff. You could even start a band ;)

+1 That's what I did. Bought a Yamaha RBX 374. Quite cheap and good enough plus it's fun to play something else than the guitar. :kickass:

I absolutely 100% agree on the fact that your not going to get a real bass sound out of an electric guitar. I would MUCHH rather actually record bass parts with an actual bass lol problem is im in college at the moment with an incredibly tight budget so i have to work with what ive got for now. I will eventually buy a bass though. thanks a lot for those pages! im new to the forum i must have overlooked the equipment section.
