Aren't there any guitarists here in the Battle Zone? I don't see any guitar talk which would be appropriate for this site. Metal guitarists unite!

My main axe is a customized Jackson Profesional...locking tuners, push pull coil tapping and the coolest feature of all is the pick ups...vintage 1982 Duncan Distortion bridge and Seymourizer II neck...well seasoned...hot and sweet.

My second axe is a vintage, all original, white 1981 Dean Flying V...I picked it up for an amazing 100 bucks...its worth about 1000. I wouldn't sell it...it plays awesome and sounds even better.

Well...this may bore most of you, but the shredders out there may appreciate it.

Nice dude, I have a Ibanez rg550 and rg570, a Jackson performer which isnt the greatest guitar, but it has duncans and sperzle locking tuners. I have a Marshall valvestate ( like the one Chuck Schuldner used ) with a crate 4/12 cab. It has a good sound but I prefer a more old school sound, like Slayers Seasons in the Abyss and the only amp that will get that is the JCM 800, someday though ....

Very cool guys...glad to know there are some other axemen here. I'd love to get seriously back into playing with a band, but it's tough with a full time job and a family. Keep on shredding dudes...let's keep the guitar chat alive here.

When I saw Billy at the NYC show last month, he introduced me to his bandmates as the first shredder he knew...way back in high school...we jammed together a bit and we used to hang and go to shows together.

I'm a guitar junkie...there's nothing better.

Oh, yeah...I have a Roland Micro Cube which is the most amazing little amp on the planet...it has built in modeling and great digital effects...great for practice and recording. I also have a Peavey Express 112...one of the older ones...nice distortion and active EQ in the lead channel...I'm a Peavey fan for their price, quality and durability, but I'm not crazy about the newer ones.

I hear what your saying about the new peaveys, I went to some crappy little guitar store out in Lynchburg a few weeks ago, looking for a used marshall. And the idiot at the counter tried to sell me a 5150.... I kinda pissed me off cause I specificly told the guy I was in town checking the pawn shops and music stores looking for a used MARSHALL.

I'm not a fan of the "affordable" Marshalls...the MG series is shit...the valvestates are ok...you'd have to find an older JCM. Honestly...I like solid state over tube...lower maintenance...and I want mega distortion anyway...who care about warmth? I'm a big fan of the Roland Cube series over the Line 6 shit...the Line 6 is so cheap. I surprisingly like the new Ibanez Toneblaster (I think that's it)...great value for a lot of power and excellent distortion. Older Peaveys are built like tanks...real work horses...I've owned about 5 in the last 25 years...I liked them all.

Even though I don't play anymore. I still have all my gear. Keeping that "I'll-start-a-band-again-one-day" dream going.
But this is what I have.
'79 Les Paul Standard
Paul Reed Smith(I think I got it in '92)
Marshall JMC800 head with 4/12 cab
A few Boss pedals
An Old Morley wah(that beats the shit out of any cry baby any day any time any where)
60's era Fender twin reverb amp(killer clean of any amp I've heard)
Peavey stereo chorus amp
A.R.T SGX rack unit(crap!)

Man, Let me know if you ever want to sell anything...you have great taste!

Let's hear about some favorite guitarists as well...mine are Michael Schenker(hence my nickname), Uli Jon Roth (Scorpions and Electric Sun), Marty Friedman(with Megadeth...not so much solo), Steve Morse, Larry Carlton, Al DiMeola, Eric Johnson...among others.

Right now, I am Studying the styles of 2 , Jeff Loomis of Nevermore and Alex Skolnick of Testament

Good luck...that can be challenging, but there's nuttin' better!
I have been trying for years to get the solo for Practice What You Preach, I can play the notes but getting the feel is rough, same with Inside Four Walls I can play it, but getting the feel of the musicis the bitch. I grew up playing Metallica and Anthrax, Slayer, Megadeth, but metal these days is just so more complex, as far as solos go.

I disagree with you...I think the soloing and musicianship isn't as good for the most part...there are always stand out players, but a lot of the metal these days is unoriginal and cookie cutter and lacks any melodic content or guitar solos. So many bands sound exactly the same and the lead players don't have very distinct styles...again...there are exceptions. Even with all the amazing neo-classical players now, it's impossible to tell one from the next...6 minutes of sweep picking so fast that you can't even distinguish the notes is rather boring. It's like "Wow...cool...yeah, ok...again?...come on...yeah, you're great, but can I remember or hum the solo?...no"

While I agree with you about the majority of the metal bands out there these days being unoriginal, there are a few that stand out,
1) King Diamond, Andy LaRoques a very original melodic guitar player
2) Nevermore mabey its just me but these guys , all seasoned musicians, they get better, and better with every album.
3) Ik now I am going to probley get slammed for this one, Arch Enemy, if they would only get rid of the retard they have singing and get a real one...
4)Lamb of god, local richmonders while I dont get in to every note, they have many inspiring moments.

Got to back to work we will talk more later.

King Diamond is cool...good guitar, but, come on...they're still old school so they are following a different formula.

There are a lot of groups that have moments. Shadows Fall is another. I saw them and Lamb of God...they were both great live, but I don't find LOG original.

Children of Bodom...Alex Laiho(sp?)is an amazing young guitarist...shitty singer and too much keyboard crap.

I'm still searching for a saviour.

There is a new crop of guitarists out there who just smoke! Unfortunately they play in bands with a types of singers I just can't stand. Yellers(I've heard its now called Extreme singing-whatever) and death vocals. Grates on my nerves to no end.
