Hail To The Stonehenge Gods - A Tribute To Black Sabbath

Another tribute CD, and a Sabbath one at that... aren't these things, you know... getting old? Quite possibly, but Sabbath (at least pre-83 in my opinion) will always rock, and this tribute does the band justice, which is all you can ask.

From Premonition's very unnerving take on 'NIB' (the vocalist would be Ozzy reincarnate of the Ozman was actually dead), Born Of Fire's spot-on 'Heavy And Hell' (managing to capture the song's all-important groove), Silencer's 'Into The Void' (massive) and Powergod's 'Neon Knights' (it had me pacing the room on first listen), this tribute has enough worthy entries to keep any eyes rolling. It's a solid, traditional rendering of classic heavy rock tracks from groups who do it well. Even old UM faves Imagika get a look-in with 'Never Say Die' (given an almost thrash metal brushing), and Mudslinger close the set with 'Black Sabbath' (almost spot on).

Not a high budgeted tribute like others one could mention, but the team at WWIII Music have managed to pull together a decent set of bands whose performances overcome the sometime-patchy production.

Definitely worth a listen.
