I am well aware of the connection between metal and some pretty dark composistions in the orchastrated world, but I'm intrested to see who on here is as obsessed with film scores as I am.

Just wanted to see what everyone's favorite pieces are. I'm currently listening to the track "The Well" from The Ring soundtrack.

The Star Wars music really never disappoints, and honestly, I love the Star Trek music from the first 8 movies as well (even the less highly regarded movies, like V and Generations, have absolutely fantastic musc IMO). Zimmer is good, but I feel like he repeats himself way too often. And what scores did Kamen compose? (I only know of him from S & M :erk: )

I know he did the third Highlander movie, that's where I got into his work when I was around 8-9 or so. You're kind of right about Hans Zimmer, but at least he's the guy you can go to for a movie when you want a Hans Zimmer-esque score. Never dissapoints really. I am seeing a pretty big connection as far as composing in certain keys though, but I still dig it.

Koh Ohtani
^^ One of my all time favourite tracks (not a movie theme but still an OST)

And my modest atempt at a cover of it, kindly reamped by Guitarhack.

Other than that, I love Danny Elfmans theme for Scrooged, Wendy Carlos score for The Shining and lots of Jerry Goldsmith stuff eg The Omen, Poltergeist. I'm also a huge fan of the very unmetal Joe Hisaishi (Did a lot of the older Takeshi Kitano scores)

I love my soundtracks.

Jerry Goldsmith's score for "The 13th Warrior" is pretty badass ... I think parts of it have even been lifted by other movies for trailers and such

also stuff from Basil Poledouris

Clint Mansell for me. He's very minimalistic - but I absolutely love his compostitions. Lux Aterna (from Requiem for a Dream) & Together We Will Live Forever (from The Fountain) are my favorite two. I also really like Phillip Glass.

I don't really draw any direct influences from this style of music, but more or less it's my creative/think music. Helps me clear my head and let creative energy flow.

Yeah, Goldsmith did the music for Star Trek TMP, V, and First Contact, which I love - I'll have to check out the 13 Warrior! And Cryo, badass music dude (both the original and cover), I bought Shadow of the Colossus for like $11 at a closeout sale this past XMAS cuz I'd heard awesome things about it, but haven't gotten around to playing it yet!

I really like the Harry Gregson Williams score for MGS2.

Hahahahahaaha, don't even get me started on MGS (die-hard fanboy since '02), though really, most of the music for all 4 of the games has been the resident Japanese composers in the development team; HGW really only did the music to the key cinematics (including the definitive MGS theme which they LEFT OUT OF MGS4 GODAMMIT - I was SO looking forward to it kicking it in at some emotional moment of MGS4 that would just reduce me to tears, but it never happened, and OOoooh do I still get steamed about it  ). Deus Ex has a fantastic score as well, despite the cheesy synth-ness of it; really fits the whole cyberpunk atmosphere that I love so much.

I love movie soundtracks.

Love listening to:

Prague Philharmonic Orchestra Doing the music of Tim Burton
Herbert Von Karajan's Holst: The Planets (think most movie themes are derived from this, especialy Mars Bringer Of War)

Other

Nightmare before chrismass
300 (when playing oblivion)
Batman Dark Knight
Phillip Glass
Command and Conquer Red Alert 3
Kung Fu Panda
Life Aquatic

The Star Wars music really never disappoints,

OMG I LOVE YOU.

Star Wars: Episode IV - A New Hope Special Edition
was the first "album" I ever bought.

I grew up with a black babysitter as a young lad in the 90's - so previous to that, I had only been listening to BONE THUGS N HARMONY, DR DRE, SNOOP DOGG, PUBLIC ENEMY, etc... and then i had some SIR MIX A LOT and KRISS KROSS tapes. Copied THE BLACK ALBUM from my sister onto cassette and listened to her cd of the Beatle's PLEASE PLEASE ME (still love MISERY soooo much).

I had always had an interest in classical music as a kid, so i had some tapes with mozart, bach, beethoven, etc...but for some reason, it never really stuck. I remember having the back to the future soundtrack with that Huey Lewis song - those are the earliest memories of me rockin some AIR GUITAR. haha.

STAR WARS
EDWARD SCISSORHANDS
Austin Powers soundtrack (NOT THE SCORE) had some killer songs, like that cover of The Turtle's "You Showed Me". One of my favourite tunes EVER.

are the soundtracks i liked

Hahahahaahha, YES, I loved the Back to the Future OST, both the orchestral themes and the ridiculous Huey Lewis music ("don't take money, don't take fame, don't need no credit card to ride this train!" :D ) - honestly, I've really never heard any traditional classical that truly moved me, but damn do I love me some film soundtracks (it's pretty much all I'd listen to before I got into nu-metal (and then actual metal), and it was a really big bonding point between me and my dad in my youth). I pity you for what your babysitter inflicted upon you dude!
