@fireangel: i'm not sure. i had the same thought when i read the "christmas eve" line, but i would never expect the pet shop boys to do a song that is entirely about one subject, much less one which seems distant from their normal topics. i guess that, much as most of their lyrics, it's about a personal story (either their own or some friend's) and then the references to jesus are thrown in for artistic effect. maybe an explanation can be found on the web, but i'm too lazy to try...
