Never got the appeal of HP. The 1st movie bored the hell out of me (I actually fell asleep). Seems geared toward little kids and mothers like it too for some reason.

I started to 'read' the books because my wife loves the series so much. Mind you, I did it the easy way and listened to the unabridged books on tape/cd on my way to and from work over a period of a few months. The reader is amazing, and if you have kids who like the series this is perfect balm for road-trips.

To sum up:

Book 1: Didn't like all that much
Books 2 - 4: ah, Ok, getting better, but still didn't grab me.
Book 5: Holy Crom! This book is great. Grabed me from the start and held on until the end. Only twice did I think to myself "Get to the bloody point!".

I'm please that Michael Gambon has the look of Dumbledore (read Richard Harris) but I don't think he's doing the voice right.
