They are psychedelic prog rock. Like a rocked out pink floyd but totally different, at the same time.

Meads of Asphodel are described as the Black Metal version of Hawkwind. So much so that Hawkwind cameo on the album.

Then you take J and his disdain towards 70's prog etc (e.g. Hawkwind type bands!), but twist it into something 'extreme'....and you end up back at Meads.

J will prefer Meads to Hawkwind, trust me.
