Heirs to the DT throne?

I was ready to hail Andromeda as the next great progmetal band when Extension of the Wish with Lawrence Mackrory (who was only going to be the temporary studio vocalist under their agreement) came out. I thought "Johan Reinholdz is fucking brilliant [and then so young]--he's somehow created a unique form of psychedelic progressive metal. He's got to have at least a couple really strong albums in him before his material sounds the least bit tired." The CD didn't leave my car's player for half a year at least.

It's gratifying to read these opinions about Andromeda that mirror the thoughts I've had about the first CD. I was SOOO ready to worship them as the "next big deal", but nothing from them has come close to the brilliance of the original EotW, in my opinion.

My thoughts regarding the thread title are definitely Seventh Wonder and Circus Maximus, though unfortunately I'm afraid neither band will reach the sales level and/or "popularity" that DT has enjoyed over the years. It's a different musical (business) landscape these days.

I heartily laugh in the direction of PoS..........(excuse me while I throw up a little in my mouth). :yuk:

hehe

Just teasing PoS lovers. Don't eviscerate me........

This is why I love this board: I'm like a big fish in a really small pond, then I come here and I'm out of my depth....I only barely have heard of Seventh Wonder or Circus Maximus until this thread. I know PoS, Voyager, Haken (listening to Visions again right now because of all this talk!), etc....but mainly because they DON'T sound much like DT. DT is still around and making music, so why do I want to listen to someone who is, how was it so nicely put? "play in their sandbox" (That's a great quote!). The SW is, however, now on my wishlist for sure! Note: big fish, as in, most people here don't even KNOW who Dream Theater is. This is where you go to a TSO concert, and no one knows who Savatage is, or what Dead Winter Dead means to the whole TSO thing.

II=I is also pretty awesome, but it has been kinda a downwards path for them since then. I was very disappointed in the new album, which I haven't listened to since my first spin.

I don't get why Manifest Tyranny wasn't well received. If you can get passed the awful lyrics, there's some really awesome stuff going on. It's my favorite since II=I.
