Strapping Young Lad is a joke that was ok at first (City) but now it is really really not funny nor heavy at all (all albums after City). SYL sucks and may be the most overrated band in metal.

City has 1 or 2 really good songs, like Detox, but apart from that I find them pretty annoying. In fact, I pretty much dislike Devin Townsend, something about him annoys me. And that whole wacky "mad scientist" image or whatever, ugh, fuck off.

Haha, just what I think. I saw Devin live when he was in Steve Vai's band years ago and thought he was amazing talent. The he released SYL-stuff and the first 2 releases had some good moments, but after that everything has bored me and I think he's way overrated.

I liked the first single from the lasy SYL CD. The melody in the chorus was quite tasty. However, it's the own SYL song I ever found tollerable. Devin is a creative guy, no doubt. But much of what he creates is music I have no desire to hear.

Just like every other SYL clip I've heard, perfectly okay stuff. This type of metal satisfies a very specific spot in my tastes though, one which I happily satiate with Pantera and Grip Inc. when the time comes, usually about 5.7 times a year.

Devin is bi-polar, that song is about going of his meds and going nuts as is half the album i believe.
He aparently has breakdowns after each SYL album and then makes a solo album to counter it.
So all of you who like the solo stuff but hate SYL, you owe it some graditude

I said as much on the Opeth forum (or maybe it was here) about a year ago and the general response was FUCK YOU and i said, "no really. SYL is drastically overrated" and then the forum shut down. They said it was because people were leaking the new album but I knew it was me who caused the shutdown.
