Hello from California, USA.

Thank you EVERYBOY for the warm welcome. I sure wasn't expecting so many replies & hope I don't offend anybody by not having ample time to respond individually.
Just a couple notes & I'll get back to lurking around all the posts prior to my arrival. From what I can tell so far - You've all done a great job molding this forum into a cornucopia of interesting topics I am anxious to become a part of. I am especially impressed by the genre variations and mention of bands I've yet to become familiar with.

A couple more notes....
Delize -- Thank you for reminding me it was Mark Twain who said that.
Pabla -- Yes, I am a big Maiden fan. (Though I am ashamed to confess I've
never seen them live.)
Puckfiend- Hello neighbor !! - I'm in eastern LA County just north of Pomona,
you?

Back to the boards....
Thanks again EVERYBODY!

Yes, in addition to this being the most civilized and classy community on the web, we do have a wide range of genre interests. Although we're all pretty much rooted in old school rock/metal, you'll find much discussion on hair metal bands, new classic sounding bands, folk metal, power, death metal, and many others. Even stuff like Blackmore's Night and Lana Lane comes up from time to time although Wyvern and I seem to be the only participants in those threads!

Glad you're enjoying your stay so far, PMR!

THANK You for the welcome & info Kittybeast ! Yes, I'm still here wishing I were able to make the show but....... blah blah (No excuse is good enough so I won't bother). Symphorce, huh ?? I've only got 1 CD by them - What would you consider their best album & how does it compare to 'Twice Second' ? I know several people who are REALLY into this band but ... lets just say I may be missing something.

Take care -

Hey TSO!!! Good to see ya! (Still trying to shake off my broken pride from Eric's response in WH- he he) I'm also a fan of Blackmore's Night but I just don't get Lana Lane. I only own 'Project Shangri-La' so I won't make a judgement yet. Can you suggest a better one?

I've been all the way through everybody's rotating CDs and I must say Wyvern appears to have many of the same CDs I do. I'm grateful to find another Skyclad fan. Like Finntroll, people I know either love em or hate em.
Well, time to hit the boards again & see what I've been missing.
Take care-

for the longest time Phorceful Ahead was my fave.... I really really enjoyed T2 but Godspeed has now taken all as my top fave. This of course could all change in 07 with the release. Send me a PM with your address and I'll send you some stickers :headbang: you can also visit us on myspace and www.symphorcefans.net

Thanks Kitty - I've sent the PM (not sure how all this works yet so please be patient as I learn) and I'll be sure to check out more of their material. I'll add Godspeed to my want list.

Take care & thanks again-

LOL, Erik sure headed you off at the pass on that concept! Pretty cool to interact with such an awesome songwriter, ain't it? Erik's way cool, which just adds to the mystique and my appreciation of Wuthering Heights. As for Lana Lane, I think her latest is her best, Lady MacBeth was one of my fave albums of last year. Excellent songwriting thru and thru. I'm also a big fan of Queen of the Ocean. Wyvern has most of her stuff though, so he could probably give a more in depth recommendation.

Speaking of Wyvern, I used to think he had good taste. But then he torpedoed the new Iron Maiden and sunk it at the bottom of the ocean. :erk:
Just kidding, of course, Wyv's the coolest.

Also, on your mention of Finntroll, I'm not into death metal vocals and extreme music, so I could never get into them beyond a few listens. Korplikaani, on the other hand, I'm having fun with. It's like Finntroll without the speed and growling. I call 'em heavy metal polka! :loco:

I am totally amazed Eric actually does take the time to respond to threads at all and it is thrilling especially since they have been my favorite band since they nudged Savatage out of the slot by a whisp. It will be interesting to see if Savatage can reclaim that position when and if they record an anniversary album.

I'll add 'Lady McBeth' to my wish list for the next haul. Heavy Metal Polka - Awesome, Hadn't heard that one before... I have heard Power Polka used to describe some of the 'cheesier' powermetal bands. I actually like many of them

I've never been too fond of DM I do listen to it on occasion and I did buy the Monsters Of Death DVD which I really enjoy. I bought Korplikaani's 'Voice Of Wilderness' without knowing what to expect & I'm quite pleased with it. Are you familiar with Midnattsol ? I don't know your tastes well enough to know for sure but I'm thinking you'd like them.

Thanks for the feedback... and again for the intro to this forum - talk to ya soon

Remind me to write you off my Christmas list :heh: (and I mentioned AMOLAD is boring on live radio nobody called to insult me, the mass is with me  )

To me her best work (heavier oriented) will be "Secrets Of Astrology", if you dig that one that I can recommend some more stuff later. "Lady Macbeth" as TSO said it is also worth to check, but trust me and try first SOA.

Skyclad is great! I'm so eagerly waiting for the new material I hope is as good as the last one (the first without Walkyier). I'm a huge fan of English/Ramsey compositions so I'm sure they still have a lot to offer.

First of all, I didn't know I was ON your Christmas list, and secondly, the only reason no one called in was because all the phone lines were down in Costa Rica when you were on the radio. Either that or no one was listening! :p

Wuthering Heights nudged Savatage out as your FAVORITE BAND of all time? I love WH, but I can't go that far. They haven't been around long enough. But they are one of my fave bands for sure, just based on Far From the Madding Crowd. The new one kicks ass for sure, but not quite on par with the originality and brilliance of the songwriting.

I'll add 'Lady McBeth' to my wish list for the next haul.
Follow Wyvern's recommendations first. He's much more authority on Lana Lane than I am.

I haven't heard Midnattsol, but it sounds like like a scandanavian folk band! I love that stuff, but it's all about the songwriting for me. Korpiklaani is very fun to listen to, but they still need to improve on songwriting to make them great. Finntroll and Moonspell are better songwriters, but the vocals turn me off.

Not sure what the hell Warlord has to so with Skyclad, but I'll agree that WARLORD RULES! One of my all-time faves. When Rising From the Ashes came out a few years ago, I about shit my pants. I bought it immediately from Century Media. What a great album that was, like they hadn't lost a step. Of course, the songs on that album were written back in the day (as revealed on the Cannons of Destruction DVD), so it's no surprise the songwriting quality was right there on the spot. It was also really cool that William could get Mark Zonder to come back and play drums on it. That Hammerfall guy did a pretty good job on vocals too. :D

Actually, WH did. It was unexpected and completely shocked me when I came to the realization that it had happened. From the opening notes of 'Gather Ye Wild' , I was spellbound by that band. I still like Wake Of Magellan better than any WH album, but I like any of the WH albums better than the rest of Savatage's. TSO's Beetoven's Last Night is right up there with my favorites too. The number one slot may be up for grabs pending WH's new release and I can only guess who might fill it. I'm still a big Savatage, TSO, CIIC, JOP, DB fan but they're stretching it a little thin.

Thanks for your recommendations & including Wyv's input.
Take care-

Time to add another CD to the proverbial want list. Only CD I have ever been able to get by them is 'Best Of Warlord'. I've heard good things about Century Media but never ordered from them. I really like The End & LaserCD mostly because they do not hold up shipping for back orders and both are seldom out of stock. Have you had any bad experiences with Century?

I'm not sure what any of this has to do with Warlord either. :loco:

The new WH will NOT surpass Far From the Madding Crowd. I think Erik will even admit that once the promo work for Shadow Cabinet is done. And if you think the Savatage juggernaut is stretching thin, you must not have heard the new JOP. :D

I will admit that FFtMC ranks right up there with Savatage's best. But Savatage has a ton of great albums for me. WH only has one (maybe two now). The first two WH albums don't measure up. They were good, but FFtMC is on a whole other level. As is the new one.

FFtMC can compete with Mountain King, Gutter Ballet, Streets, Dead Winter Dead, Wake of Magellan, and Poets and Madmen in terms of metal greatness, but it's still just one german shephard in a pen full of dobermans. To win the war, they'll need more german shepards.
