Caught the show last night in Seattle. Horrible venue, but enjoyed the show. I noticed a huge difference in Deris' vocal performance based on the song. Not too surprising, on the songs he recorded originally I thought he sounded pretty good. Trying to cover Kiske's range? Yeah, that was a problem. Changed lots of lines, sort of spoke rather than sang certain parts, got the crowd to sing along quite a bit. It's got to be hard to step in and sing a band's iconic music when it's written for a completely different vocal range.
There were a few of us over 40s in the crowd, but mostly a bunch of teenagers. My cassette of Keeper of the Seven Keys is older than probably 3/4 of the crowd last night. Nice that a new generation is appreciating good music though!
