Hello all. Unfortunately my amp just all of a sudden shut off and stopped wokring. First it turned off and then back on quickly. I then turned it off and then back on and there was a delay from the time I flippe dthe switch to when it turned on. It turned off shortly after though. I tried switching out the power tubes for my old pair that still worked fine but it did nothing. I havent done anything to it since then. Maybe it just over heated and needs to cool down? The only thing new that has happened to it recently is a new cab that I got for it. I have a 212 genz benz now that I hook it up to. I have it going from the mono 16 ohms out jack to the 8 ohms in jack of the mesa. I was told this was safe to do. It's been like this for almost a month now with no problems so it seems like it would have acted up sooner if that was a problem.

I have had it for almost two years now with no problems. I always warm it up before turning it on all the way(I leave it in standby for a minute or so) and when I turn it off I always make sure to put it in standby again for a minute or so. I have been using it a lot lately. I had it on today for about 5 hours. I was recording with it. It's in a cool room and the amp has plenty of ventilation. Does anyone know what this might be? I bought it used from guitar center close to two years ago so there is no warranty. Is there anything I can do to get it fixed for free or am I going to have to pay? If so, where do I bring it to get it fixed? Does guitar center do this or do I have to ship it somewhere to mesa? I appreciate any feedback. Thanks

you blew something

could just be the fuse

you can get a replacement quickly at radio shack

but it could be the tranny

go to radio shack and get some fuses and report back!

god damnit! I should have looked into it more. But wtf it was on the mesa boogie forum and the guy seemed 100 percent sure about it. He said it was taken right out of the manual. Oh well my fault. I shouldnt have been so stupid. So have much would a new tranny be? What else coyuld it be? There wasn't any smoke or anything haha. Is this gonna cost big bucks? Also, how should I hook up my cab to it? I have an 8ohm jack and two 4 ohms jacks on my mesa and on the cab there is a mono 16 ohm jack and two 8 ohms jacks. The 8 ohms are wired for stereo if I use both and the right one is for mono. I tried using this once and only one speaker worked. Is there something i'm missing?

BTW thanks a lot for the help.

Wait, wouldn't the amp be putting more power than the cab absorbed if the numbers were reversed? Cuz as I understand it, plugging into the 8 ohm output on an amp has the amp compensating for 8 ohms of resistance, and if its going into a 16 ohm jack, then the cab is giving too much resistance, not too little. In other words, it would sound stifled, but wouldn't do damage. This has been my understanding...

no, actually you should be fine as far as the cab goes, but first things first... go get some fuses and see if that doesn't fix it.

well my dad has this device thingy that tests the resistance of things. It got a reading when he tested the fuse and said that the fuse seems fine occording to that device. But it also was working all wacky and said low battery so maybe it wasn't accurate. I'm going to get a fuse and try it anyway. What if it isn't though? How much would a new transformer cost?

oh I forgot to say that the footswitch seems to be on when I try turning on the amp. The light on the footswitch turns on and I can press the channel buttons on it and everything. The amp on the other hand does not turn on at all. The light does not go on.

With Mesa's, it is safe to connect your amps 8ohm output to a 16ohm cab, and even the manual does say so.

I don't know what is wrong with your amp though..

hmmm thank you. I will call mesa and make sure. Thanks for bringing that up. I hope it isn't a big deal to fix my amp.

hmm when I turn the amp on it makes a crackling noise. It's very quiet, I have to put my ear up against the amp to really hear it.

necrobump. Yeah turned out it needed a new "DC filament" A local guitar shop fixed it for around 100 dollars(that included the price to diagnose it as well). I used the amp for a while after but eventually sold it because I was really poor at the time. I kinda miss the amp now. Couldn't quite get an extreme metal rhythm sound but was great at doing everything else included cleans. Here are some tone test with it trying to get a more modern rhythm sound. Genz Benz Gflex miked with a 57 with a TS in front of amp.

Here is with the master volume low

And another with the master higher at around 9 o clock.

Those were my final tone tests with the amp. Now I'm all nostalgic :( I wanna get another amp! Maybe the Laney Ironheart Studio.

it's depressing seeing my threads from 7 years ago and then thinking about where I was at that point in my life and then realizing how little has actually changed in almost a decade! About the only thing that has changed in my life is going from 9.35/hr to 12.50-13.50/hr LOL
