i need to help my 16 year old cousin with her summer project. part of it is to explain the differences in advertisements american companies use in the US versus in other countries. like if they are simplified, or what.

HELP. anyone have any good examples for her?

Well, I know foreign companies (esp. in Japan) sometimes recruit celebrities (local and foreign) to advertise everything from dish detergent to beauty products. More so than in US, as in the US it would cheapen the celeb's image, but in Japan they don't seem to care. So US celebs are recruited to do ads in Japan that will never see the light of day in N. America...

the overseas ads are totally more sexual. I've seen Trojan ads from England that would never see television here, and then there's that racy Swiss microsoft ad with the girl with the password protected bra....there was no nudity or anything, just the idea of a guy trying to take her bra off would be an anathema here.

With the FCC on a total warpath right now, I don't see anything changing very soon.

I saw an english or australian ad for chocolate flavored condoms, everywhere the milkman went, his housewife customers had chocolaty teeth. In the last scene he goes past this one chick and she smiles but her teeth are sparkling white; he walks over to a goat and pets it on the head; the goat smiles and has chocolate on his teeth!
