How is it ignorant when he is just expressing himself. He knows what ozzfest is, therefore he isn't ignorant. Also , I think most people on here agree with him :erk:

Its a metal festival, an outdoor event like no other. I dont understand it, now that metal is getting some serous exposure again and people still complain. Instead of coming together as a metal community, all people do is bash. Who cares what kind of metal, its not the bullshit we had to go through the last 10 years. So yes its a very ignorant post. I dip in all the genre's of metal, but what really pisses me off is how people of labeled metalcore....what the fuck is mallcore? If you dont understand the history of HARDCORE itself then go do some research before you start bashing. the blend of HARDCORE and METAL, is alot better than the grunge shit that took hold of the 90's....PROG/POWER is not the only metal out there, and quit frankly its on of the least popular of all metal........no this is not a popularity contest, but who wants to do something that you cant make any money at. i no if my job didnt pay me i would quit....there is a reason ozzfest has no PROG/POWER metal, because the listening audiance is small.....period.

It's pretty good. I was hoping for Megadeth and the Anthrax thing but I'll still go. Haven't seen Maiden since about 91-92. Plus they are only playing shit from the first four Albums!!! :OMG: They should throw some Powerslave tunes in there to I think!!!

Unless Accept magically appears on there count me out. I love a lot of oldschool metal like Maiden and Sabbath, but it would take my fave OS band to get me to fight that crowd and those nu-metal bands to go to that show. : /

I absolutely hate this idea of liking something simply because it's metal or has metal influence. Furthermore, banding together with the rednecks that I see at shows that like music because it's loud and heavy makes me want to vomit. This whole thing makes me distance myself from metal music. Because of the current popularity of "-core" whatever, I don't really like to identify myself as liking "metal," but as liking "music." Nu-metal was the last crap trend, and now -core is the new crap trend. I listen to real music, and I'm not going to be all happy just because we're dilluting metal and making it popular. I'd much rather go see a jazz or classical concert than go to Ozzfest just because it has some -core, some of which might be a tiny bit metal.

It's rather ironic that this is posted on the Prog-Power board....do you think the bands that play here make no money. It's not like there aren't other good metal tours or festivals. The Maryland Deathfest this year has some excellent bands, including some that wouldn't be in the US any other way. Cryptopsy just toured, Strapping Young Lad is coming up, and so is Kreator and Vader, and a whole bunch of other good bands. It's not like there's nothing besides Ozzfest.

I hate hardcore and I hate metalcore, why should I give a fuck if its popular? I don't care if its the only kind of popular metal IN THE US (which, by the way, if you didn't realize, as far as metal goes, NO ONE GIVES A SHIT WHATS POPULAR IN THE US....EUROPE IS THE METAL CAPITAL OF THE WORLD). Look at the Wacken lineup...do you see any metalcore or hardcore shit on that bill? No, its all TRUE metal - black, death, thrash, power, etc. I don't compromise my tastes or ideals for anyone, because I have enough integrity not to. This music is my lifeblood and I'll be damned if I'm going to "settle" for crap just because its what the popular trend is.

First four albums? That's lame. Do fans really want to see that?

Yes.

I would think fans would be most interested in the Number of the Beast all the way up to Seventh Son of a Seventh Son.

Jesus, we've just spent the last 15 years see Maiden go on tour to support new albums from No Prayer for the Dying onwards (not counting Ed Hunter or Give me Ed till I'm Dead of course). I'm not about to miss this retro-fit.

I don't think you realize just how monumental this is. The opportunity to see "Transylvania", "Phantom of the Opera", "Flight of Icarus", "22 Acacia Avenue", "Children of the FUCKING Damned" is beyond comprehension!!!!!!!!!! (Not that I've seen the setlist yet  )

Anyway, like someone else said, this is to support The Early Years DVD. The next DVD will include Live After Death, Somewhere in Time, and Seventh Son material so I guess you can always wait for that tour. :)

BK, this is far from a flame, I simply want to redirect your hostility....

With the exception of one Killswitch Engaged (which was given to me and I don't care for) and the Evanescence CD (which I do like,) I own absolutely zero nu-metal, nor "core" anything. However, exposure plays a lot into what you listen to. I am absolutely, 100% positive there are some younger metal-heads that started out on stuff like Korn and "graduated" to things like the stuff we listen to.
While I do think Sharon Osbourne is a complete sellout and a bitch on top of that, she is actually doing "real" metal a favor by introducing young minds to classic metal like Sabbath and Maiden. Not all young metal fans are studious enough in their tastes as of yet to "know" what they like and some will become fans of the better metal out there in the world.

As frar as redirecting your hostility, go for the throats of the nu-metal bands. I understand completely. I don't like rap in my metal, but excluding the 5% or so of the nu-metal population that might graduate into true metalheads due to this event is hurting the bands we all love.

Hmmm..... about 80% of what I listen to is European metal as well. The other 20% are bands like Metal Church, Armored Saint, Old Metallica etc. America was once the "cornerstone" of metal. It is not anymore, but until we can get the young generation into the "good stuff" then it will be longer and longer until we are able to get "real" metal back in the US.

I'm seriously considering taking a flight for this one like our brethren do for Progpower. The reason would be to see Maiden again mainly. The fact they are sticking to the first four albums is a lure but I'm kind of worried how long they are going to play. I've seen Maiden 7 times now and they usually build a set consisting of moments from the first four albums. The following would be part of 'any' Maiden show in all likelihood:

Sanctuary
Iron Maiden
Wrathchild
Number of the Beast
Hallowed be Thy Name
The Trooper

Let's say those six definitely made the cut. What kind of set length would allow for these gems:

Phantom of the Opera
Prowler
Remember Tommorrow
Charlotte the Harlot
Murders in the Rue Morgue
Genghis Khan
Innocent Exile
22 Acacia Avenue
Children of the Damned
Where Eagles Dare
Revelations
To Tame A Land

You get the picture. Those six from the top list will be part of the set you would think. At least several from the bottom list would have to be added or I would be terribly disappointed. From my experience at Ozzfest, the top support band (co-headiner?) plays no more than 75 minutes. I don't know if the money a trip would cost would justify the means like Progpower does so I'll probably back out of that idea. Sabbath always plays the same stuff also.
Why can't they throw in some of their excellent catalog that they never play live?

Ozzfest always comes close to where I live, and I've never had a desire to attend. Basically, if it wasn't for ProgPower, I'd be up the creek for live performances. Ozzfest bands are a joke, except for Priest, Iron Maiden, and Sabbath! Honest to God, I don't know why anyone would insult their intelligence by going to a festival that Jack Osbourne picks the bands for! Ozzy has admitted that he puts the bands on the bill that Jack is currently listening to. Geeze...........I'd ten times rather go see Judas Priest and Queensryche this year!

I couldn't care less if the only reason Sharon & Ozzy keep this festival going is to make a buck or two. I am not going to go because, outside of Maiden, there is not one band on the bill I would pay money to see. It is not because I don't think they are 'real music' either...not sure what that term means. I listen to the music I do for one reason - it moves me in some way. Whatever label is put on it, if it doesn't touch me or move me in some way, I don't listen to it.

I just saw Social Distortion for two nights, recently bought tix to see Emmylou Harris and have secured my Gold Badges for this year's PP, of course. Three different style events and music, but each give me just as much enjoyment, as the other, and touch a different aspect of my personality. Metal, blues, country, punk...if it touches an emotion or elicits a reaction, that is what counts.

I think that there is good and bad in just about every trend. Not saying that everyone has to like everything, certainly there are some bands and styles that aren't to everyone's taste. I do like some nu-metal bands, like the Deftones and Sevendust. I like some of the so-called "metalcore" bands like Atreyu and Avenged Sevenfold quite a bit. I just wish that the media would understand the concept of _variety_. I doubt that the nu-metal plague would have been as bad if radio, MTV, and all that crap hadn't thought, "Hey, this band in this style sells records, let's promote that style to the exclusion of everything else." The result is that bands like Three Days Grace inexplicably get airplay whereas a band like, say, Mercenary, gets jack shit when it comes to exposure. Unfortunately, the new trend is metalcore, and again, instead of merely letting the best bands of that style stand out and giving room for diversity, the media is jumping all over a sound that they can homogenize.

Why were people expecting more than an hour? The headliners are Black Sabbath.

Anyway, 1 hour of Maiden >>>>>>>>>>>>> pretty much anything I can think of

Living in New York rules. :kickass:

and they aren't playing west palm beach, since that lands in one of the seven last dates... which they aren't playing

dude that is your opinion, IMO prefer grunge way over nu-metal shit, metalcore I can stand there are some good stuff but come on. Som metal IMO is the worst type of stuff anywhere. I would rather go to a damn Garth Brooks concert than go see Dying Fetus. The only thing I hate worse then True Black Metal, Grindcore, and Nu-metal is Rap. If I don't like all genres of metal like you do that doesn't make me ignorant, it just means that I have oponions. If I don't like something I usually bash it, and it isn't like I have not given a chance. I go to school with kids who listen to this stuff. I tell them to listen to some old Soilwork and old In Flames and they will say stuff like "If it is so good how come they don't play it on the ball?". They are the ignorant ones damnit, the listening audience for metal isn't small at all. Have you ever been to a freakin' Hot topic it is ridiculous all those little pretentious punks who listen to korn. But you know what Korn is a metal band, it is a sub genre but it is still metal, If I don't like I am not going to support it, I wil bash it as much as I want too. And I have heard plenty of this crap so I am not being ignorant
