will a virtual memory dump hurt my computer?

Shouldn't - if I'm understanding what will happen that should mean that the computer will just make a permanent file out of whatever's in virtual memory at the time. So if you have a chunk of harddrive space begin enough to hold an extra (insert amount of space allocated to VM here) it shouldn't be a big deal. And you can of course just delete the file later on account of you're probably not going to go back and "debug" its' contents to figure out what happened.
