hey, have a listen at this Katatonia Cover

I am a noob but i tried my best

Please i would love some advises on what is good and what is not

I had some troubles with the "Gtr Lead", as i find i hear too much the 'plectrum hits' ( sorry english is not my langage, i dont know the right words for this).

thanks a lot

My try :

I believe pick attack is not a big issue..as for the mix i think the whole mix is quite messy :) drums get too squashed and there's no punch. Try with less compression maybe?

So here´s my final version! Its without vocals. Your refrain would really work great but i decided to leave it without. All vocals or none :)
Isn´t here someone who likes to try to record those vocals for the whole song? Its really hard to sing...but would be great if someone could do. The Tracks are really great done!

@Deadstar, let me know if i should add other credits to this song

shame nobody is actually going to record vocals. Talking about credits there should be a .txt file in the package with that info and nice mix!

Great mix!! I will have a go soon, drums are really well mixed! Vocals are a fresh take on the style. Nice work! I love Katatonia and youve done them proud.

Here is a go I had - i only spent an hour on it at the most. One of the things I am aware of on this album is it was all analog... not sure if it makes it crazy to use the original as a reference and the work Kramer tape over the whole thing but I use a little bit of the tape and ... well who knows, im not convinced on the tape emulation thing yet. Besides theres obviously a lot more to it but you can try.

I had a go at this, and I'd sure appreciate some pointers:

Vocals are clear and the balance is not offending and pretty well balanced which is good.

I feel - and this is just me - that for this sort of music you need to get the drums out more- this is as much about mixing the drums as anything. Try to get your drums sounding powerful and big then wrap everything around it.

But you are on the right lines with basic balances.

What drums are you using?

I'll post my latest version which is here.

Ive not really had time to do a lot more since my last one, and I would like to glue the low end a little better and sort vox between verse and chorus levels but its sounding ok in the car for me.

Also I did just noticed that some of the leads were chopped at the end... bizarre, must be PT messing about on me!

Cheers for the feedback. I really just couldn't get it so I was totally happy with it, and couldn't figure out why, but I think you're right about the drums.

I was using Superior Drummer 2.0, and just couldn't get them to hit quite how I wanted them too.

I had the same problem with the lead guitars cutting out at the end, which is why I ended up just looping the first section.

Here it is my mix of this great song:

I didnt went for that fat brootz snare, it´s quite the opposite. I know that this snare it´s quite thin but I think it fits better the groove and I was after something different.

At first I tried to use that telephone effect in the verse but then I thought why would I do that? because it was done by Deadstar and since I dont think that vocal sucks, I tried to work on my own way and view. I think that the verse vocal track is good but a bit hard to equalize, there are some nasty frequencies sticking out too much, and a lot of low end.

it´s missing some files, that violin that plays before the chorus and the vocals in the end. Thanks man, I enjoyed a lot mixing this. Not so much for the sound itself because there isnt many things too mix, the guitars, bass already have a great sound but it was more for creating the dimension, the atmosphere, the aesthetic side of the mix.

Anyway, great, great cover. That keyboard in the intro gives a unique feel. I prefer this version to the original. The cover is really well constructed.
