Lina, do you play Opeth(and other metal) at work? I was just curious. I didn't know if you weren't allowed for whatever reason or just prefer not to be hassled by co-workers.

No, I don't listen to music at work because I'm usually busy (not today, obviously) editing transcripts of speeches, which requires listening with headphones. So I never think to bring any CDs with me.

This music is awful. It's not even gospel actually -- it's like christian pop or something. Ugh. And it doesn't help this guy's case that I know he voted for Bush. He's really asking for it now!

That sucks! I can't stand Gospel music. I once went to a family reunion and a distant cousin of mine sang gospel for the gathering... BADLY. I wanted nothing more than to snatch the mic and keyboard away and tell him to shut up... It didn't help that my dad bought a CD from him and blasted it during the 14 hour ride home! AAAAAHHHHH!!!!!

Next time (if there is a next time) I'm bringing a cd player and some death-metal CDs.

Gospel music was influence in jazz and blues. In fact, jazz blues and gospel ( and charleston but its is just a form of jazz imho ) influenced each other in their starts. All forms of music and rythm can be valid if properly executed, if you at all like any jazz or bands with jazz influence, listen to Thelonious Monk, he brings gospel and charleston elements to modern jazz and he is a damn legend, i love his music.

I would advice against discarting any musical genre so quickly, specially one that influenced so many other genres.

This is a random thread...so: Reading Alan Dershowitz's new book, Shouting Fire. Damn interesting. Very thought-provoking, and I reccomend it to Satori, Misanthrope, and anyone else interested in the philosophies of human rights. Very cool, indeed.
