BIO:

Terra Incognita means unexplored land as translated from Latin.

“Desire to uncover something new is in the mere name of this group. The music alchemists
created their own totally outstanding style and named it “violin rock”. At the early
stage of their development, the group was compared to Haggard, and now there’s a talk of
resemblance to Apocalyptica. But that’s the talk of preconceptions. In reality it’s a
bright unique band that has come up with their own expressive language.” Y. Chernova,
“Rain” Youth Magazine, Tyumen, 2006.

“Terra Incognita (Barnaul-Brooklyn,N.Y.) looked pretty outstanding, both in cast — a
practically female team except for the drummer — and in sound — fiery violin rock.” V.
Osipov, “FUZZ”, 2006.

The name — Terra Incognita — was “handed down” and it wasn't changed throughout their
history.

Distances the group has covered on tours run up to over 5000 km from Siberia to the North.

The year 2006 turned out to be abundant in proposals. Terra Incognita was heard in
Russia’s major cities: Omsk, Novosibirsk, Kemerovo, Tyumen, Petrozavodsk, Arkhangelsk,
Tomsk, Ekaterinburg. In summer of 2006, Terra Incognita took part in “Air-2006”
International Festival in Karelia. That was followed by recording in promo compilation
“Okhota 16” run by the major North-West company “Bomba-Piter”/”Manchester Publishers”.
Besides, “Bomba-Piter” invited Terra Incognita to St. Petersburg to a festival.

Terra Incognita’s musicians played in concert with major performers: (5diez), EST, Alisa,
Pilot, Korol i Shut, Kotiteolisuus Surganova and Orchestra, Masha i Medvedi and many
others.

Some, in attempt to pigeon hole Terra Incognita, say that it’s a violin trash drive, some
fiery violin rock. Others define the group’s style as neoclassic or gothic metal with no
guitars. The musicians themselves don’t stick to any definite genre lines.

The group recorded their first self-made album “Avtogudronator” in 2004. It had little
circulation at the time.

In 2007, Terra Incognita set about recording their new album together with the New York
manager Andrey Severgin. The disc was recorded in Russia with the follow-up work on it in
the USA.

Birth of the album did not run smooth. The participants were set apart by the vast ocean,
differences in mentality, and the language barrier. But all the problems, disagreements,
and prejudice have been left behind. The album “Land Of No Return” is a really
international product with which the musicians proved that music knows no borders.

“They shock their first time listeners, or rather what is shocking is the amazing
mismatch of the Terra Incognita fragile girls and the powerful inner charge in their
music which fascinates and excites, asking questions yet not always answering them. This
music miraculously combines thrilling racing rhythm and inexplicable harmony.” Natalia
Kootz, “Cosmopolitan. Siberia” 2005.
