Highlights of the year - 2018 edition

So what's been tickling yer musical fancy so far this year? For me:

1. IN VAIN - Currents (amazing band, discovery of the year so far!)
2. FUNERAL MIST - Hekatomb (great black metal album!)
3. HINAYANA - Order Divine (amazing newcomer, for lovers of Slumber/Enshine, very strong album)
4. ALICE IN CHAINS - Rainier Fog (just released this past Friday, but I really like it so far, all albums since Layne's death have been pure gold i.m.o.)
5. UNANIMATED - Annihilation EP (great comeback EP after 9 nice years! Promising great things for the upcoming 4th full-length, old school heroes! \,,/)
6. THE SPIRIT - Sounds from the Vortex (really good German newcomer, keeping the Dissection flame burning bright with some Tribulation sounds incorporated as well)

Good, but not great:
AT THE GATES - To Drink from the Night Itself (At War With Reality was awesome, this, although solid and at times entertaining, doesn't live up i.m.o.)
NECROPHOBIC - Mark of the Necrogram (really enjoyed the last two albums, this new album is getting good critics, but it hasn't really clicked with me yet)
DEMONICAL - Chaos Manifesto (solid, but not near as killer as 2013's Darkness Unbound (!!!))

Good but not great :

2018 has been a fantastic year for great album releases so far!

New Deicide is awesome, the closest to a Stench of Redemption sequel of all the albums since then. Mark English is an underrated guitarist.
