Hmmm... Is all hope lost?

Well, I have to say, I have been one of Enchant's biggest fans through the years ever since I got my hands on BotW. I finally got to see them and meet them at Progpower in Atlanta when they were there for the Progpower Showcase.

We talked there and they definitely seemed like they had found a renewed interest in creating music together as a group and making a new album. We talked about it for a long time and I truly seemed to catch a spark between all of them as they discussed it...

However, that was a LONG time ago now. I think almost all hope is lost at this point. It's been 7 years.... think about that for a second..... SEVEN YEARS since Live At Last came out... which of course was just a live album and not a studio project. It's actually been EIGHT years since their last studio album.

The last time that anyone (I believe it was Ed) updated anyone either here or on the main Enchant site was November of 2009 and he still gave us hope that they were still a band and just that everyone was busy.

But now, here we are... it's 2011.... and it's been EXTREMELY quiet here for a long time. I used to come to this forum pretty often just to see what was going on. Now, there's almost never anyone who posts here because there's just nothing to post about.

*sigh*
Is all hope lost for an Enchant revival? I sure thought there was a spark during the Progpower show... enough of one to overcome the limited time everyone had to focus on a new album...

Hmmm. Enchant guys? You reading this? Any updates would be more than welcome...

Thanks
Anakinnnn

Although it doesn't appear very promising, I'm still holding out hope. I've been attending gigs since '90 with Brian on lead vocals/bass, and am still hoping to catch at least one more someday before it's all over. If it is all over, it was a great run by a great band.

I just read on www.dprp.net that Leonard will replace Nick D'virgilio in spock's
only for High voltage festival in july in london .I wish i was there that night,I think it will be a great show with him at vocals and guitar. Good luck Ted,I will
never forget your music,I've been following you ever since "blueprint",unfortunately I saw you live only once supporting D Theater in italy
but whenewhere i want enjoy your music I just have to play over and over your dvd.Bye from Carlo (Italy)

With the amount of core fans this band has, AT THE VERY LEAST, they should give some kind of update good or bad. If nothing is going to happen then just tell us, "Nothing is going to happen in the foreseeable future" We could all live and accept that.
Since 2009, the last post by Ed made it clear they were alive and kicking again. Obviously something has gone awry and what they thought was going to be the makings of another CD is not going to happen. Very good post ANAKINNNN!!!! Has anyone tried to get in touch with Ted through his sites? Some one has to know something....

I was thinking exactly along these lines. Well said, Anakinnnn.

I've been an Enchant fan ever since 1994 (...!) and was (no, I'm still foolishly) hoping there will be a new album one day. Everyone here would like to hear anything from the band. ANYTHING? from ANYONE? I think we deserve at least this much.

Come on guys, if it's only for the money, do record some mainstream rock that sells :Smokedev:, but please - keep - going!

I hope Enchant is not done. Much like you, it would be cool to know how the guys are doing and if they have any plans.

I think there is another modern BPotW-like masterpiece left in these guys...but $ is tough and they have to make a living.

If things turn sour with Enchant, I would like the possibility of Ted joining Spock's Beard permanently. As much as I like Nick as a guy and a drummer, I always thought he was the best back vox and harmony guy in prog. As a lead signer, at least for me, it's not my taste. If he could go back behind the kit and still be the leader in Spock's Beard, but have the addition of Ted to the band; wow. That would almost be as strong as SPock's Beard V1. I guess we'll see how good they sound on stage first!

I've never seen the boys live, and also have been following since BotW. Unfortunately not a lot of people know about them, but they're definitely one of my favorite bands, and I'd hate for them just to fade away.

And yeah, I don't see why a respectful letter to Ted wouldn't be in order.

Hey guys,

We are still alive! It's been a rough couple of years for us and so much has happened. Ed got divorced. Sean got married and had a baby. Ted moved 2 1/2 hours away, got divorced and got remarried 6 months ago. Robin and I seperated for a 1 1/2 and I almost lost my house. It's been really tough to get together or even focus on Enchant for some time now. I can't even get a hold of my web site admin to give out updates these days; my bio still says I'm newly single after Robin and I seperated in 2004! We got back together in 2006 and I've been trying to get that changed since.

Anyway, all is not lost. I spent this last weekend in Tahoe with Ted and we talked a lot about what it would take to get back in the studio. I felt inspired for the first time in a long time and I'm seriously thinking about trying to make something happen. I've not even talked to our record company in 2 or 3 years so I don't know if we still have a record deal. I'll be getting on this stuff as the summer progresses. Although we are all super busy with jobs, kids, life, etc., we all want to do another record.

I'm gonna get a meeting together in the next couple of weeks and we will see where things go. Sorry for being out of the loop all this time. I guess I needed to walk away from the band after a 24/7 365 mentality for almost 20 years and take some time to focus on other things.

Thanks to all of you for keeping the flame going even when I wasn't sure I could.

My greatest appreciation,

Doug

Doug,
This is awesome news! Thanks for letting us know you're still alive! I'm (SUPER) glad you're inspired to try and continue the magic you've created with Enchant. Speaking purely as a fan... as long as you are all happy and healthy, I know the new music will come when the time is right....

Ahem.... The time is right! :D

God Bless!

Thanks for the update, Doug! I too have been going through some of those "relationship" changes. These things tend to happen in a down economy, don't they?

Wow, lots of stuff happened in the Enchant world...
Thanks for the post, Doug - I really appreciate that! Here's hope that you guys get together again one day. I'll be there. :Spin:

Sounds like serious stuff, Doug, I hope everything's going to turn out fine for all of you.

No problem for lack of updates, that hasn't kept me from digging your music - my random ProgRock playlist has chosen to give me "Enchanted" just as I'm writing this :D

Take your time, I'll be first to order if you get a new album out!

Fellas...

Great to hear from you. Hopefully things are looking up in your normal lives. Tough times, we all know... Hopefully you can all find a little sunshine.

Doug, Tahoe.. sweet. Bet you and Ted have a great time there. Pre-kid, my buddies and I would always go out President weekend and go snowboarding at Heavenly and then partake in some late nite tomfoolery at the NV Casinos. You Cali guys are pretty lucky only being like a max 2-3hr drive from all those amazing places (Mts/Wine Country/Beautiful Coastline/Redwood Forests). But I do not envy the cost of living. I've been following Ted with the Rolling Heads stuff (That's how I found out he got remarried) but I didn't know what recent cover band stuff you were/are doing. I was hoping that my job would send me out your way and I'd show up at one of the cover bands' shows, but I ain't traveling anymore with cutbacks. I'm surprised that you guys didnt get together for a group photo each donning a Wilson beard. Congrats last year on finally getting that 1st Championship. Hey that would be a nice band photo.. Match Ted's recent hairdo

Anyways, good luck on the band meeting. Hopefully, you guys are inspired for some new Enchant output. Hey, if not, oh well. At least, we have 8 awesome discs and a DVD to pop in for our pleasure. I recently watched the band interview on LaL for the first time in a long while, and I had a big grin on throughtout. Hey, I think Isildur's Bane broke up so you can finally change the band's name to your first choice. :D Anyways, you are the coolest most down to earth guys in a band, so thanks, well for being........ you.

Take it easy,
Jim

that was a hell of an update...!
i wish you guys all the best for your personal life - everything else doesn't count.
thank you very much for these personal informations - i hope you all will find time and joy in putting new musical stuff together. in the meantime there are lots of enchant-tunes to be re-explored. :)

Thanks for the update, Doug! Believe me, I understand! Been through the divorce and getting remarried, I live 2 1/2 hours from our headquarters/studio/practice place (although we do have some up at my house too), and other members have gone through some of the same, and even good stuff like job promotions that make playing in a band all that more difficult, plus we lost our keyboardist right after finishing up our latest. He's a FT musician and our practice and gigging times did not work well with his schedule and only way of generating income.

I really hope that you guys are able to make it happen and record another disk. I know I'll buy it! :)

I'm sorry you guys have hit such a rough spot in your personal lives. I wish you all the best in those aspects.

I'll still be here if and when you record again, whether it be as Enchant or in other projects. Might have to switch user names again (I'm mrouser from 10+ years ago) if I forget my handle or if this board moves again, but rest assured I'll be here. I've supported many bands through kickstarter and the like, and I'd love to do my part if you guys decide to go that route.

I'm gonna take this in a little different direction...... it has been since 2003 since the last Enchant studio album and 2004 since the last Enchant release period. A hiatus of moderate length can be understood. Beyond that, the gift is simply being squandered. Yep, I have all your CDs, they're magnificent, and they bored their way into my skull like so many drill bits over the years. For those of us who instead of being overtly gifted at anything in particular have to settle for Q while reaching for Z, or honorable mention while striving for the podium, a lack of output from truly talented persons is confounding and even frustrating. It is the equivalent of Michael Phelps quitting the pool, of Dan Simmons quitting the novel, etc. I hope that the band's abilities will not be wasted indefinitely. Everyone in the band is obviously an adult and free to do as they wish. However, despite the silence I hope the future will show otherwise for this very talented band. I thought you played very well at ProgPower, b/t/w.
