Hitch-hiking?
Isnt't there a finnish variant on http://www.taxistop.be ??
The part of the site you need is called Eurostop, so I guess there is one for Finland too...

Thanks!!

Quickly scrolling the pages I saw that the trip might cost something like 11-12 euros (with a studentcard 6-7e), and the train quite the same.
I looked for the train yesterday and I saw Helsinki-Lahti (only one way) for about 17 or 20 Euros which is not very little. What about that student card? Do you know if I can get if for student price if I'm not studying in Finland? (for Germany it's not really working..) Should I have a kind of international student card?

mno that's mainly for getting from one place in europe to another, not really inside countries.

but there's somewhere a site though for inside finland hiking... sorry i can't remember (crack?)
and they once told me you can go to the airport and get very cheap last minute tickets for inside finland... but again... i don't know :)

there's a dover-calais promo for 1 euro though, i 'll do some coasts and harbours after my exams... far enough.

I just found something on that bus-site:

"Student discount

- minimum one way journey 80 km
- 50 % discount on the price of a one way ticket
- available to persons carrying Matkahuolto's student card or a student organisation card that has the Matkahuolto logo, and to cadets carrying an identity card of the Defence Forces" :(

Ok, I checked the site and they don't approve ISIC-card (isn't that like international student -card? I don't know 'cause I don't study:) )
but the cheapest train I found was 11,80 euro, which I think ain't _that_ expensive anymore. But there's this thing called 'green departures' which means there's some trains where buying the ticket in advance will give you 15% off the price: http://www.vr.fi/heo/eng/aika/aikataulut.htm (click the 'green dep.' on the left). I found three or four daily departures that go through Lahti.

Since they're not the slowest (= cheapest) trains - the ones which cost that 11,80e - I ain't sure how much the discount would be in the end.

Whoah boy, I'm gettin a bit nervous here. I was just phoned that my place in a bus from Tallinn to Lithuania has been confirmed. Tomorrow morning I'm going to exams for a school I've applyed to and after that I'll take a boat to Estonia and continue forward by a night-bus.

Oh how exciting :D

If I ever get to Greece, is there going to be some welcoming committee with orchestra and that? :D
