Holy shit - Ola Frenning leaves Soilwork!!

Bjorn and Sven actually write quite a bit... Bjorn can play some pretty damned decent guitar...

The bonus track, Martyr? Thats Bjorn on guitar right there, actually.

BUT.. yeah... its crazy! Super sucks... hopefully it doesnt jack up their tour that they start in just a few weeks!

Gonna have to go ahead and completely WTF that last one. Decadence...as in they have given up on traditional moral standards? If you mean decline, then I'm just going to disagree completely, but I'd like to know what you think that word means...

Jeff

Definitely sad news. If they continue on into another record, chances are that I will probably like it, but as already stated by others here, it will be hardly the same band...so it will have to be thought of in that context.

Seems to be a common theme these days. This is essentially the same situation as what happened with Peter Wichers, Chris Amott, Peter Lindgren, etc. Sure, Chris Amott came back, but that's the exception...

Picture yourself in Ola's shoes - would you want to do even more touring? Most of the time, Soilwork gets on really shitty bills in the US where they have a short set and they have to open up for most (if not all) of the other bands. Look at what Soilwork has already achieved on a musical level - what would your motivation be to continue if you had that kind of legacy behind you no matter what, and if you had to be stuck on tour constantly?

You've got to really enjoy touring to be in a band that is put under these kinds of expectations by the label and fanbase. If you don't, then it's probably better to make a shift towards doing more production/writing and less touring. That usually means quitting your band.

Soilwork is one of my favorite bands ever, but I don't envy their lifestyle, and I can relate with Ola's decision and I wish him and the band the best.

+1, Shane.

I think one of Brett's posts a bit back summed it up perfectly.

Someone posted pictures of Soilwork playing in Texas, at a pretty standard US venue for that kind of show, and Brett's question was something along the lines of "Those are the kinds of shitty venues bands like Soilwork are forced to play in the US?"

It's almost, but not quite the same reason Peter Lindgren left Opeth.
