No not the Grenada after party's :kickass::kickass::kickass: the German Prog/Power band from the 90's. I was listening to Turn of the Tide today and what a freaking great album thiese one is. Reminds me alot of Threshold style metal with the obvious Queensryche influences...Anyone familiar with them? Its to bad they arent around anymore, they would be a great fit for PPUSA...Some people that are Jorg Micheal fans would recognize these guys maybe?

Bear

Oh yeah .. Bear, cool band. I wish they were still around. House Of Spirits, Hollow, and Sanvoisen were three bands that were really instrumental in getting me into prog and power metal, and they are all seemingly defunct ..... sad.

Britt

Sanvoisen was one of my early favorites as well, particularly Soul Seasons... House of Spirits is awesome, as is everything else Olaf Bilic did back then (Falcon, Jester's March).

Hollow are the masters of THROOM! LOL

HOS were great, and funny you guys mention Hollow as I was just listening to Architect of the Mind today. The singer has such a unique and distinct voice; the 2 albums I have from Hollow are both great although the production sucks.

Agreed on the production ... awful. The songs though are so good I listened over and over despite the crapola production. They only had the two albums .. Modern Cathedral was the other.

Jester's March & House Of Spirits :headbang:

In fact House Of Spirits 'Turn Of The Tide' was one of the first CDs that got me into European metal. :kickass:

Bear were you secretly listening to my debut show at BEC? ;) (Just kiddin hehe cool coincidence though!!)

I actually played Wasteland like 2 or 3rd song into my playlist. Love both releases and everything this singer touches....even the old Falcon Chartscraper disc even though it suffers shit production. And yes love both JESTERS MARCH CDs as well!

Love Sanvoisen and SIAM as well. Bear do you like Headstone Epitaphs "Powergames" release? Although quite basic music the vocals are amazing IMO.

Also check out DESTINATIONS CALLING's newest one. On my madman myspace page I have a song in the player by them......check it out. The song reminds me A LOT like House Of Spirits.

That "Destination's Calling - Invisible Walls" disc is pretty good. They sure aren't doing anything new and earth shattering, but the tunes are good & catchy, and the singer is quality.

Britt

You'll have to let me in on that joke .. what's throom?

Britt

thrashy doom, or doomy thrash. I think it was Ralf Walter who coined the term. Candlemass and Hollow are members of the genre, as well as Confessor, which is "technical throom". (haha... that still cracks me up)

Ah okay, I got it now. That Ralf has coined a lot of terms .. unfortunately most of them aren't fit fot an all ages forum like this one :)

Britt

I love TURN OF THE TIDE, great disc. Sanvoisen and Siam were
also excellent bands, used to listen to them a lot, along with Elegy.
Need to pull all those out again now that you reminded me!

Cheers,

Neal

Ohhh now we're talking. I totally miss sanvoissen. they ruled. house of spirits and hollow were both awesome. how bout superior, heads or tails, mercury tide, dali's dilemma, hexenhaus, edwin dare and lemur voice. all bands i terribly miss from the 90s. wahhhhh lol

Superior was awesome then, and is awesome now... they need to return to Prog Power USA sometime.

Heads or Tales goes on my "lame" list.

Mercury Tide is a 2000's band... do you have them confused with Mercury Rising?

Dali's Dilemma = pretty cool DT-inspired stuff. I'd love for that follow-up to come out sometime.

Hexenhaus = criminally overlooked material. Everything Mike Wead touches is gold.

Edwin Dare is spiffy.

Lemur Voice... let's just say I prefer Sun Caged, esp. the Scar Winter demo EP. I do have LV - Divided, though, and I'm not letting that disc go. :)

How about Divine Regale... Leviathan... New Eden... and here's an obscure one: Exises??? :) ah, the memories. :)

Ohhhh duh@ me. Too many christmas bourbons for me. yes i meant mercury rising. they were cool. i also didnt mind the quiet room. nothing groundbreaking, but not too bad either. i loved heads or tails, vocals were a bit odd, but i kinda liked that.
As far as Lemur, i think they were one of the best prog bands round at the time. that first album is incredible. great balance of melodic clean passages and the technical stuff. and they hard marcel. nuff said ;)
