It seems more convenient for folks like me who want to share the new stuff but cant afford to send by mail or icq/mazinger. I would be willing to participate and as everyone starts getting songs they can trow a server too so everyone gets samples....

i think your request won't piss off anyone or receive accusations of piracy, mainly because it's just that: a request and an idea. imho, in fact, proposing stuff is the best way to handle this. :)

however, i didn't vote on the poll since i think that your question might just be slightly missing the point. i'd agree with you if there were licit samples around (or authorized under any form by the band). but what we get over the net are not official samples, just - no matter how we like them - rip-offs of promo-releases sent by the band exclusively to labels. so i guess that actually doing anything more than dloading mp3s (for those who are willing to do so), i.e., handing them over to others would be a behaviour that i, as a dt fan, wouldn't want to adopt because of the risks of indirectly damaging the band. besides, it still stands with me the idea that there are lots of unofficial (as in "not owned by the band") places where everyone of us can post his/her own wishlist and suggestions as to how to contact ppl willing to share and so on and so forth.

for the moment i'd say "no, this is too much", but my opinion is however subjected to things staying this way, which means no official samples coming out. perhaps it'd be also different if your proposal involved sharing just one song or a part of more than one song, as previously suggested by villain, for instance.

I diagree. Im just aware of everything you say but i say its on everyone's conscious to get them or not, and as you already say IF they want to get them they will anyway, why not chat a bit with the people from the forum in the mean time?

ok, we've got that already: server: irc.mahke.net ; channel: #ultimatemetal. you'll find ppl from this and other boards there (actually i thought you knew that already). whatever you may want to do on that channel (being kissed by finnish ppl is a common pastime ;) ), you can without further publicity on here. :)

this is a serious invitation, although not yet a marriage proposal. :D

Yes but some people from this forum COULD want samples/songs and i COULD run a server there so this poll is to get opinions and how many people would actually be there for songs, so to speak, so i have a better idea of what im getting into.

I won't vote, as my irc-knowledge is very limited. BUT. As mentioned before, I'd like to have one song from Damage Done as an unofficial forum-sample, that could be spread to everyone here (except for those strong-willed ones who won't waver in their wait till the release date) and then discussed all together. We just need to choose a suitable song.

Uhm, i don't want to give my opinion on the sharing thing, but i have already made a dt channel on UM chat, it is #Dark_Tranquillity

And apart from mIRC and the likes, u can also use the java applet (which btw i hate  ) on UM (go to the main page and u'll find a link "UM Chat"

Villain: I completely agree, and I also think it could be not-so-frown-upon by the band members. Don't know which one to vote for, though :)

Maybe just 1:00 min sample...not full song... Then it would be more exciting to listen Damege Done if haven´t heard the whole song.
And this is a brutal fact, if you listen one song over and over and over again you get bored to it..and when you have album...
...you skip the track.
But this just my experience..
