How do get 80s Extreme Metal Guitar tone?

(I've just been reading the "how do mix drums" topic - poor guy!)

Can anyone help me with getting an 80s extreme metal tone?

I'm not quite sure how to describe it, but the guitar that comes in at 38 seconds in this vid is the sort of thing I'm after:

I use Amplitube 3 and Amplitube Metal.

Use old gear & old micing techniques, in lieu of that, replicate with software.

I wasn't being specific enough in my post.

I'd be replicating with software (Amplitube). I was looking for something more in-depth, i.e. amp eq/ gain levels/ recommended pedals/ vsts etc.

I start with a Marshall Jubilee, Rat pedal and bridge humbucker...generic GL
