This is what I did:
Setup a stereo track. Take one hard hit from the snare, put it on the stereo track and reverse it. Cut the transients. Put a stereo widener tool on it (I use Steinbergs Mono to Stereo plug-in). Now automate it to go from full stereo when it starts to mono just before the snare hits. send the snare itself to a huge stereo hall. done. I like what I hear and I hope you do too!
I really like to take very ringy snares for the reverse as you can hear in my example. Sounds really disturbing to me! I haven't heard this in any other mix but I'm not listening to that much core stuff atm so maybe it was done before.
