How do protect floor from drums?

My studio just got a brand new floor solid birch. My question is..

What do you guys put under the drums or on your floor to protect it from the drums? Carpet? Plywood? Rubber?

a big fuck off rug from Ikea!!!

for the spikes from say kick drums, i use extra bits of spare carpet i have lying aroung on top of the rug

a good one i came across a while back, totally on accident, is just a piece of carpet padding...the rubber is nice and soft and protects the floor wall, but doesn't slide like a rug or piece of carpet sometimes does

I use a $10 one from Wal-Mart that is like 5'x7', been working great so far.

If you've got some coin and a decent hand with a hammer, you could build a small platform for them to sit on. Actually, I think Oz wrote about that.
