We metal fans are an obssesive bunch, sometimes travellling long hauls to see our favorite bands. This is more true for fans who don't live in the larger cities that are part of the normal tour circuit.
For myself, it usually means a 10-15 hour bus trip to from my city in Mexico to Tucson or Phoenix, Arizona. I once travelled 2 days to las Vegas to see Halford (when he was a solo act) with Testament opening up but when I got there the show had been cancelled! I was totally bummed but at least I got to spend a couple of days in Vegas.

3 h by plane to Atlanta, GA for Prog Power (again this year).

Locally, 30 mins :D

3.5 hours by plane to Southern California for Mike Keneally gigs, back when I could afford doing that 2-3 times a year....Those were the days... :erk:

San Francisco to England to see Jethro Tull. To be honest, I just got lucky and they played when I happened to be there for a week, but I'm counting it. Haha.

Other than that, 4 to 6 hours is my record. Nowadays I never have to go far, living in the SF bay area.

Hours and hours on trains and buses since I was 17 to go to festivals and gigs. It's always about an hour and a half for me these days to get to Rock City to see a decent band, not local kids.

Farthest though was going to a festival in Belgium.
Hardest to get to was seeing Down a few years back, everything went wrong, but we made it eventually.

I have a couple of bands that I will follow for a couple of gigs per tour, but only if I know somebody in them, like for Skindred I'll always make an effort.

Once I traveled from Eindhoven/the Netherlands to London to see Satan perform. That must have been in 1982/83 I can't remember.

6 hour drive for the Metal Masters show.

From Maine to Connecticut.

Then again, I also went down to visit family.

I saw Maiden in Detroit on the BNW tour, and Heaven and Hell in Tampa back in '07. Both trips involved visting friends though, and were planned around the concerts.

I also flew to San Francisco to see Thrash of the Titans (Chuck Billy benefit) back on 8/11/01. I guess this one counts...haha.

I have travelled from Aberdeen, Scotland to Gothenburg, Sweden for Iron Maiden... also Paris 4 times, Belgium once, and Germany once... I do love Iron Maiden, all worth it!!

Also this year already I spent 13 hours on a bus to London to see Testament then another 13 coming home the next day, then did it all again for Forbidden a couple of months later...

If you want to see the good stuff you have to travel!

From Madrid (Spain) to Italy (Rush), Germany (Keep It true a lot of times, Mercenary), Sweden (Thyrfing, Raise Hell), Belgium (Graspop 3 times, Novembers Doom, Agalloch, Saturnus, Life Of Agony), Netherlands (Agalloch, Novembers Doom,...)...
