Hypocrisy

For straightforward DM, the first 'Osculumn Obscenum' and 'Penetralia'. For melodeath, the self titled, virus, fourth dimension, or even the arrival.

In before Zeph and CC

Their best are Abducted, Virus and Hypocrisy. All are top notch atmospheric melodic death metal.

However, if you prefer a more old school death metal sound, pick up their first two albums, Penetralia and Osculum Obscenum. Think traditional Swedish death metal with Florida influences.

Thanks to all of you.
I decided to get the second one (can't remember how to spell the title).
I'm more into death metal, and it was cheaper, so that was my choice. I'll probably end up with most of the others when it's all said and done anyways.

Oddly, I'm not that big of a Slayer fan save a few songs and the Reign In Blood album. I know that's metal blasphemy, but a voice can make or break a band for me, and I can't stand the vocals for Slayer.
As for Venom, I've just begun to listen to them and I like everything I've heard.

it depends what you like

Pentralia for that old skool death metal style
Hypocrisy for slower more doom/epic melodic death metal
Virus for something heavy and fast
Abducted if you just like DM/MDM in general

but there are wicked songs on all the albums, s'why I hate 'album' recommends of great bands... you miss so much

Abducted. I really enjoy The Arrival. 'The Departure' is an incredible song. I wish The Fourth Dimension had better production.

If you like old school death metal check out Penetralia which
is an underrated classic.

I'd like this band a lot more if they did more songs like 'Apocalypse'

I love their mid/slow-tempo songs. they have a lot of songs like Apocalypse...
