After my well documented affairs with firstly a 906 then an M201 I am 100% back to 57 and 421 on 2 cones.

I was trying to get close to the new Carcass sound and went for 57 and 421 on 2 different cones like Colin Richardson uses.
There is a 3d quality and fullness from this that I could not capture with 1 mic.

First I place the 57 using pink noise then bring in the 421 and reverse polarity and sweep to find the lowest signal level then flip the polarity back.

Here is a test with Triple Recto for ICEM4N's new DI pack.

I'm on a strange relationship with the 57/421 combo...
most of the time I love what it does, but I keep ditching the 421 for the mix in likr 50% of cases, cause the 57 works great on its own too...it does add a lot of awesome beef to the sound tho.

Do you use 2 different cones?
I find it much better than 2 mics on 1 cone.

I love the 57/421 combo. I will usually use two mics for guitars in any scenario just to have options. I've noticed the 421 adds a little bit of warmth the 57 misses. My faders tend to be around 60/40 (57/421) for the grit of the 57 and the warmth of the 421.
