I hate being a PT n00b - Midi loop recording?

How in the living piss do I setup Pro Tools so that I can record in the same take, whilst looping?

I wanna lay down some hi-hats with my midi keyboard, then lay down the kick and snare pattern for those hi-hats. But when it passes around the loop region, it just creates a new take - quite annoying.

I'm sure this is something really idiotic that I'm missing, but bugger me if I can find it!!
