Couldn't agree more with both of the above posts.

From everything I've read, most feel the Monumension/Below the Lights era is the peak period of Enslaved's evolution into a more progressive sound, while many also prefer the black metal of the early days (with Vikingligr Veldi being at the top of the list of those who prefer the earlier material).

I personally love it all though, including Isa and RUUN, the latest two releases that showcase a softer & more progressive evolution of the Below the Lights material.

I thought Isa was good, although the 'prog' (I hate that term) elements started to get more and more prevalent, and it just generally started to get more boring for me. I think I listened to RUUN a grand total of once and decided that was enough.

I've heard almost nothing by them either.

I'll get around to it eventually.

I did finally hear Neurosis though! Bought two albums (Through Silver in Blood and Times of Grace) and they both sound excellent on one listen each. (moreso TSiB)

Yeah, I know what you mean about the 'prog' term, but since that's what most label their last few efforts, it's hard to label it more appropriately. And yeah, most Enslaved fans I've talked to share your opinion on the last two albums - it's odd that I'm so far apart in terms of liking them so much, but I'm definitely in the minority there.

Yeah, well not to say that Isa's bad or anything, it just passed onto permanent fixture on my shelf a lot faster than the other ones.

exactly what she said

Vikingligr Veldi is their very best, it's like the top of a pyramid of greatness standing on Frost and Hordanes Land, and those in turn on Yggdrasil and Eld etc etc
