I have my first drummer coming in today

Ok here is clips and most pics
As you can see I was one mic stand short ( I miscounted  ) Dilbert provided useful :kickass:
He was a bit off on timing and a bit of a wimp on some bits but I think thats more nerves, but he'll be coming back soon when I get more stuff to drum to and he'll know me a bit more so maybe not be as much of a pussy haha.

drums are entirely raw , no EQ/samples/editing

I'm truly suprised I fit this in my room . Also the genrse isn't metal so dont expect uber playing, its more loosely based around punk sorta stuff.

another pic. I think you may be right in which case UBERFAIL on my part, nothing like learning though ey. I pointed them towards the snare though not the cymbals as I considered this the main sound source.

Glad it was a nice experience for you man, however, just one comment and I don't want to sound elitist, but why do these drummers insist on placing their toms in such awkward and silly angles?! Do these guys ever see pro drummers with their kits set up like that? There's a perfectly good reason why they don't set them up as this guy does. But anyway, if he could play, he could play.

I'd say your first error was expecting to be able to do it in a room that size. Money looks like it is probably an issue, but isn't there somewhere else you can do this kind of thing? Just take your computer into a church hall for a day with the drummer or something? Hell, even a scout hut would be better!

Overheads are too high. I've made that mistake before too. Try the recorder man technique, it's meant to be very effective for micing a kit with limited mic and inputs. You can still augment it with close mics though.

Our drummer would never let me put a mic that deep into the snare, and that will most likely fuck up the drummers performance. AHJ is right on that point.

Good thread for this question actually - where can I get some baffles like in AHJ's picture above? Do you just get some foam and cut a hole in it for the mic, is it that basic? I could do with getting some.
