i went back to CT last night after the show last night.

i realized i probably shouldn't have made the drive but i didn't realize it until i was on the mass pike so i ended up stopping at three consecutive rest stops until finally i woke up at 9:45 with the sun shining and made the final stretch of the journey.

well the gig had its problems but we made it through it and i'll have pics from it soon thanks to alexfer.

it was weird i listened to the howard stern show for the first time in years today too on WCCC.

pics are much welcomed. and driving long distances after shows sucks. seriously.

one time we played a saturday in cleveland and me and my gf drove and decided to stay in cleveland sunday and go to the Rock&Roll Hall of Fame and do stuff. That Browns stadium is pretty cool- it was a game day, and we could see right into it from the corners at the right angle- and it's right on the lake next to the R&RHOF. The entire city was in that stadium- everything else was empty. We ate dinner and didn't leave until like 8pm, and had to drive 6 or so hrs back to Chicago. That's really tough to make long drives after an exerting trip like that. She insisted on driving some because I was tired, but every time she got behind the wheel, she'd instantly fall asleep. We stopped for gas once, and she moved over to take over and fell asleep before I even had the gas pumped. We tease each other about long trips to this day.

they had the John Lennon exhibit out, which was kind of cool- except for the VERY FIRST THING YOU SEE, which was a large plain plexi glass-encased exhibit containing the clothes and stuff he was wearing when he got shot. including blood-splattered glasses.

some of the Beatles stuff they had was really cool- like outfits from famous photo shoots (i think the Help! coats, stuff from Magical Mystery tour, etc), the bed posts from the john & yoko bed-in, etc. the rest of the museum was kinda meh. i recall looking quite a while at an old acoustic guitar of jimmy page's on which he wrote most of the first 2-3 zeppelin albums. all the clothes i could do without. some of the old 60s instruments/amps/pedals were cool, but yeah, overall a little bit disappointing. the jimi hendrix letters were cool- mostly on hotel stationery. and some of the lyric sheets from different people on scratch paper were neat.

I enjoyed the exhibits but then you get to the merchandise area and the whole thing descends into cheese - at first I thought, well, if sales help keep it going and vibrant, but then I was reading the obscene salary the director makes, and how Jann Wenner controls it, and...meh. but that's the socialist in me.....I think the building is great, and its location is awesome, right on the lake...it was beautiful in the middle of winter, with the ice floes and waves crashing up on the shoreline.

I was very disappointed with Cleveland the one time I visited. First of all we got stuck with a minivan cuz they rented out our "reserved" car to someone else. Then when we went down to the flats to eat and stuff for all of 2 hours, our minivan got broken into. It was still daylight as well.

it's a typical rust belt city, with ethic enclaves, rabid myopic sports fans (because their sports teams are just about the prime thing to make the city feel good about itself), trying to develop an identity for the new century. the Hall is a cornerstone of the lake shore. Without the lake Cleveland would completely blow; scenically, Pittsburgh is much cooler, with the hills overlooking the city, the rivers, and downtown Pittsburgh has so much more of a modern identity than Cleveland.
