you know, I have a general benevolence towards the Italians politically, and I can't figure out why I don't hold Fascism against them as much as we all do the Nazis, the Spanish, and the Japanese (sort of).
the french contributed sauces to this world, i'll give them that. but the fact that their country is so in love with smelly cheeses AND the big mac makes me say "NO THANKS UNCLE JACQUES" nowadays.

I do like their toast. I also like the fact that they have a 35 hour work week and the month of August off. And the whole showering once a month. I could get into that.
we ate at a semi-crappy italian place yesterday on the way back from wine country. the lights went out in only half the restaurant and they brought out candles. they never did figure out what happened, but one half of the room was in darkness while the other was not.
also, i had some smelly cheese yesterday- it was gruyere cheese, which sounds french, but i don't believe it is.
actually the stinky cheeses of france are some of my favorite things...fromage d'affinoir is probably one of the best things ever to come out of a cow.
french food fucking blows. do you know what foie gras actually is? while the pastries, cheese, and wine may be somewhat okay, the italian versions own over all of em.
i'll have to try that cheese josh. gruyere is a kind of swiss actually now that i think about it. so no, it's not french. i usually don't like swiss cheese (as in the hole-filled plain store bought swiss cheese), but this has a great flavor to it. and it's kinda stinky. about $10/lb usually.
