I REALLY like the "new" Dragonforce tune "Cry Thunder"!

I loved the original Dragonforce EP/debut. They gradually drifted away from my interest over the years as they got faster and faster into "video game" metal territory. Just seemed to get to the point of having no substance for me.

Now, the NEW video I just saw - LOVE IT! Back to great guitar playing, not a million miles an hour, and a great HOOK. It's melodic, the new singer sounds awesome - and unless I haven't been paying attention it looks like they added a keyboardist.

If you've dismissed them in recent years, or even if you have never liked them, give the new tune a listen. Hope you are as surprised (in a good way) as I was/am!

EDIT: Holy crap - did this really come out in April? I can't believe I didn't catch anyone talking about this one, or am I alone in thinking this is really good?! Now I'm nervous to hear the rest...

No, I was also listening to it yesterday and thinking I really do like the new singer. And I was surprised to be thinking that. Considering how over-the-top every OTHER element in Dragonforce is, I actually dig that the singing is more 'under control' on this album, as it were. Might be their best since Sonic Firestorm.

Sorry bro, I think I agree with you on many bands but this sounds simply genric to me. It's copy and paste to my ears undiscernable from most of their songs except perhaps in pace abit. It's not bad in the since that it sounds bad, just to me, sounds like I have heard the same exact song from them a thousand times before.

Not a Dragonforce fan, they're usually too fast/too often for me. But I like this song from the video. However, if I recall well, there are not many like this on the album. Most of it was high-speed stuff again. But it's been a long time since I heard it...

My first Dragonforce concert changed my life. Glad to see they can still write some good catchy music, and I love their new vocalist!

Deron, I'm guilty of dismissing them as well. With that said, I've been in a couple of music stores browsing, when Dragonforce has been playing, and caught myself liking it without knowing what it was at first. I need to give them another chance.

Great song by the way!

Okay, color me floored. I have dismissed this band after the Guitar Hero fanboys loved everything after their debut. ZP's vocals just started to annoy me, and I didn't like the squealing deedly-doo guitars any more. They're still trying to out-chop everybody (especially by the 3:30 mark) guitarwise, but this is still some good Euro power metal here. I like this quite a bit more than the smattering of music I've heard from them since checking out Valley of the Damned back in college.

For the most part you are right. There were a couple highlight tunes for me where they slowed it down (relatively speaking) like Cry Thunder.

Man if they put a whole album out with tunes in the vein of Cry Thunder I would be quite interested to see the swing from those who have written them off. Great tune.

After Valley everything started to mesh together. Meet them several times super nice guys. Saw them several times when they actually cared about America market. Now seems like they could care less.

I don't think that latter part is exactly accurate. I would say it's more the American market that doesn't care so much about them anymore if you consider how little the new one sold. Plus, even though I like the new guy, I think a lot of people aren't as into the new singer.
