What the hell is up with naming a 10" that you will release Ararat? Why don't you use the Turkish name Agri( Ağrı ) ? Did you ever think that you might hurt the feelings of your Turkish fans who love you so dearly with such a move? :erk:

I dont get it... whats the big deal about the name "Ararat"?

And secondly, considering how much the band members have talked positively about Turkey, I highly doubt they would knowingly do anything to 'hurt' their Turkish fans. I dont know if you're being serious or not... but if you are... Grow up.

I think that it is custom to use international names for a lot of places. Like we say Nederland, you say the Netherlands or even Holland.
I do not see any disrespect in this matter- I think that OL is one of the last bands you could ever accuse of not having respect for anyone or anything-

Well, the problem lies in that Ararat is an Armenian name and it is widely believed here in Turkey that some Armenians are eager to invade some Eastern parts of Turkey where Agri would be of great symbolic importance to it. Even in terms of Armenian officiality (I do not remember which ones though) this mountain is used as their symbols. In short the name Ararat and the mountain itself serves as their ideals.

Finally bear in mind that I do not mean to offend anybody!

You'll get in the Orphaned Land's atmosphere sooner or later. You'll understand then, that when heart talks...words are not enough...

Orphaned Land's country is the whole world...

Welcome in commandante :)

seems like the hostility between armenians and turks is deeper then what I imagined.
I think that its important to remember that the name Ararat was mentioned before there was no other monotheistic religion then Judaism (and that too in its earlier form).
so there is definitly nothing against the turkish culture here.

I don't care about the Armenian Turkish political crap, I don't tke any side, Ararat is the name of the mountain the ark was landed on, thats the whole story, if something else is understood other then this, It's a mistake, end of story and love to all :)

Ararat is the HEBREW BIBLICAL name of the mountain, and it was chosen becuase of this reason. We know that this mountain is in Turkey, and we had no idea whatsoever that the Turks call it differntly, or that it is involved in this or other political dispute. It's only a name someone called a mountain, and I'm sure we'll all agree that words are vacant comparing to the things they represent. You can ask the mountain to see if it cares what name you chose for it. So can we PLEASE find some meaningful things to argue about?

I was preparing an answer to the "armenians are eager to invade eastern parts of Turkey" but ok, i'll try to follow Dreamcell's beliefs about this kind of discussions. Those who know might guess what i was going to write.

OK, please know that I am not against the name "Ararat". I just wanted to clear what Commandante, the topic starter, meant to say since our non-Turkish friends did not know much about the fuss that has been going on with this subject, being sure that my Turkish brothers/sisters will surely be oblivious and stay unaware-like in almost everything! That's why I posted more info about it above.

IOfTheStorm, my friend, as you said, if you'll try to follow Dreamcell's opinion then I wonder why you posted the message above. If you do not post what you would express then it might be left to our imagination which is, of course, not healthy. I really want to know what kind of an answer you have for it. Let me explain: this month is the 90th anniversary of the "so-called" Armenian genocide. If you follow the international agenda nowadays you will be informed deeper into this crap. Then please ask to yourself 'If they do NOT demand anything from anyone then WHY is all this fertile outcries for?' Not for the land... or is it?... or for what? The invasion I was referring to is not by guns, armies, etc. but demanding for a land compensation in retribution for their self-made-up genocide. I strongly suggest you to NOT to have any ideas WITHOUT having any concerned true information. You know ideas should derive from the verities. Almost every Turk abroad faces the questions about the so-called genocide. Tell me why should we answer to all these historical lies that are not proved to be true so far? Is this in accord with the principles of international law? You do not live in Turkey therefore you do not know what has been going on around here. If someone blames you for something you have not committed what would you feel about it? Furthermore why should we, today take into consideration something that they claimed to be committed some 90 years ago-when our Republic had not been founded yet? Are the modern day Greeks responsible for what Byzantines negatively inherited-if there is any? We can not pay any compensation for anything Ottomans had (not) done!

Growing up is not realised by staying quiet rather one has to discuss and reach to the objective conclusions. The key is: just voice your opinion based on the TRUE facts.

My Turkish friends, please be sensitive to current agenda so it will be easier to gain a healthy behaviour to reply what foreigners would ask about. Just remember the lieful "Midnight Express" (Oliver Stone has recently expressed his regrets about the movie) and its deep impact on the foreigners! It is not be good to be remembered so in the eyes of the world, is it? A true metalhead esp. in Turkey can not have a luxury to say "I do not care for anyone or anything!". Even not for the ones with fascistic or the fanatic religious attitudes who insult to your long hair, the way you look or the music you are into, huh? Noone is an island alone. Know that you are shaped by the collective and an important part of it! And do not be a dittohead! Try to improve a healthy concept of true ideals in order to grow a healthy personality out.

Please do not reply me with stupid, short, simple, shallow and base posts! Revealing ones true nature of intellectualism is of utmost importance to me and it will be deeply and fully appreciated. So please return the favour.

Finally, I will be the first one to get the "Ararat" EP!

Yes, you are right, i shouldnt have said anything, but this "armenians dont interest me, i dont care the problems" was lame . I didnt say anything more because i know that the band dislikes this kind of conversations on the board, and secondly, because i know that you wouldnt understand. There are is so many "true information" about the genocide, that your country hides from you. You ask for proof? There is a great deal of proof about the whole thing, that you fail to see, because you never cared to search for it. Try searching for non-turkish information and thoughts and historical proof. This place here is not for "history lessons" and I cannot bother explaining, you can bother learning some things. If you REALLY want to know, feel free to add me to MSN and i will explain everything you want to you. And of course feel free to take my post as "stupid short, simple and shallow", i dont care to be intellectual on internet.

Good People, Please.....
It is not the right place for argues like that......
the strangest thing in the world is that everyone can be right, as well as wrong.....

especially in times which are being ruled by the media......

history book are all lies.....and I said that before.....you can't really believe a history book which was written by a man who feels, thinks and has his own belifes......that can be very far from ours......

we should believe only to ourselves.......and trust each other......

Genocide is a really strong word.....and a lot of people love to use it......
it doesn't matter which side is right, and which one is wrong......
we are all right and wrong.....depends on the situation.....

by the way....this is what my nickname here stands for.....it's a japanese movie from the 40's......a story which is being told by 4 different people......and every one of them tell a complete different angle of the incident......
