I was messing around tonight...

lol yeah dude, those skins are waaay too old lol they will def not hold tune anymore. not buying new skins till i move out, cause my room mates always play my drums when i`m not home lol. I also need new cymbals VERY badly. livin in the ghettoo (sung very shittily) lol

oz, ive been havin a bit of a hard time using my tama tension watch, do you mind if I pm u with some questions?

Lol yeah as drummers, me and beyond can probably agree on a) It's not fucking cheap to change drum heads - b) You don't want people who don't know how to hit a drum, to hit your drums.

And about Tension Watch, I must say.... it's a great invention! I bought mine, used it once and then I found an even better use for it; to hold up my books in the book case!

Seriously, if I tuned after the Tension Watch perfectly, I had a perfectly non-tuned drum. Then I forced myself to train my ears and tune by myself, which resulted in pretty fucking perfectly tuned drums :) I'm not even sure where my Tension Watch is these days... I sure as hell don't miss it.

ideally, probably once or twice a month, depending on how much ive been practicing. I like to change them after every show, cause i generally hit harder live. Ive had the skins on my kit for 3 months :ill: come on tax season!!!!!!!

And cool vid Liam, nice playing! Though I'm laughably bad at drums, so I'm easily impressed  The transition from the thrashy part to the nu-metal-esque groove is a bit jarring for my tastes, but I dig, and your double-bass playing is spot-on! And I think it's just fine without any djent, thank you ;)

thanks marcus! we are still fooling around with the arrangement. I`ll most likely let my guitarist choose which beats he likes best for each riff, then elaborate from there.

thanks for all the advice guys!

...cause my room mates always play my drums when i`m not home lol.

Ouch.

Yea, don't even let them touch new heads. I let this one dude play my kit once and after one song there was a huge fucking dent in the snare batter head. Like the size of a baseball. Seriously, how the fuck can you do that during just one song? I may as well have let a caveman play the kit with clubs.

Cool song though. Make me miss jamming out like that. That's the true essence of being a musician.

thanks dude. for some reason, it never sounds right when i tune with the watch. it gets me in a ball park area, but i usually have to tweak tuning a bit afterwards. but you have gotten good results with it, so I must be doing it wrong or something.

Sounds about right.... a Tension watch will get you in the ballpark & then tune by ear from there. The more you work with the watch, the easier it gets to get closer & closer to final pitch.

BUt, it's gettting you in the ballpark that's the important thing.

Fuck it man, with some forced practise for a few days you can get in the ballpark in a few turns... seriously :) I "researched" (surfed YouTube that is) about drum tuning, and I learned some nice stuff which still helps me! I know it sounds like I'm really trying to make you not use the Tension Watch, but it's not the case. If you want to use it, do it, but I believe a musician must be able to tune his shit by himself. What are you gonna do when you find that someone has fucked your floor tom up before a show back stage, and you don't have your Tension Watch with you, for example?

... and you think $50 hurts? I payed 1500 Swedish Kronor for mine back when I was like 15, and at that time, 1500 Swedish Kronors was like 150$ so... guess if I feel ripped off? :P

Haha you are quite insane if you change drum heads once a month! I am assuming you just jam at your rehearsal place and don't play live so often, but maybe I'm wrong? Only professional drummers should change their heads like 2-4 times a month. It's freakin' expensive with drum heads... atleast here in Sweden. And if you are a rimshot fanatic like I was before I forced myself to stop using it, you are probably buying a pair of new sticks every week too... that adds up quite quickly :)
