at least I assume it was bird sex since I've never been involved in such a coupling to know firsthand; I've seen my fair share of birds mounting each other which I've always attributed to being as such.

I've not seen that. I do know, though, that chimpanzees have humongous testicles, and bonobos (chimp-like apes) have lesbian sex regularly.
