Icycore Wetwired

Icycore, a band in need of a severe name change, have birthed a fine progressive metal album that uses electronica to further the records overall presentation. At times, Valerio Voliani (vocals) sounds like a mixture between James LaBrie (Dream Theater) and Clinton Johannes (Teramaze). In other words: this guy can hit his notes! The entire requisite, progressive qualities are here, such as skilled guitar solos, sufficient drumming, and grandiose vocal arrangements. The lofty keyboards are also noteworthy due to their overwhelming presence within Wetwired.
The title track starts things off right by providing a rousing, and engaging, beginning sequence. The influences of other bands are readily heard, as the first track riddles its way to the six-minute mark. Upload features a variety of synth-simulated effects, and directly segues into The Net. Really, Wetwired is an amalgamation of everything weve come to expect from the heavy-hitters of the progressive metal genre. Bands like Dream Theater, Royal Hunt, and Symphony X have been performing this shtick for quite a while, but Icycore are inventive and catchy enough to deserve a mild thumbs up. I see a gleam within this group. I can sense that their next endeavor will be a worthwhile outing. However, and for now, they could use some practice to further hone their repertoire.
