Ion Dissonance is awesome as well. DEP's 'Miss Machine' is more melodic at times, but the songwriting is at a much higher level.

Right. Listening to this the second time now I think I understand the comparison, but not sure I would've come up with it on my own.
Either way, this is pretty cool and I can tell it's one of those albums I'm going to enjoy attempting to understand over the next few months. Plus it came with free DVD!

I'm kinda nervous.
This is a difficult listen.
It's not normal.
I'm enjoying it.
I'm enjoying it way too much way too quickly.
Where was this album last year.
I knew of the group.
I had heard their sound.
I felt their touch.
Why didn't I pick this up sooner?

DEP are very good , but :
1.They are too praised I think (MTV + Patton for the most part)
2.I listen to them rarely (but I enjoy it evey time I do)
Too bad Miss Machine lost some of the amazing guitar work CI , it's still a very good album.
Ion Dissonance are good but I don't need 1569 bands like DEP it's not my favorite genre at all.(I found The End useless and below DEP)
With the exception of DEP , I prefer mid-tempo core- music like Burst , Mastodon , Botch & Co. Even Converge though You Fail me is a HUGE letdown for me.
Anyway , DEP RULE live.
Edit : FNM comparison is accurate , because it's not one of my cult album either.

I also prefer the more mid-tempo stuff. I don't like DEP or Converge. Botch rules, Drowningman is awesome, Deadguy and Kiss It Goodbye slay. Burst is OK. Mastodon is overrated.

KIG are more trad hardcore sounding than the others, so be wary. KIG had some of the Deadguy guys.
