Drummer IGOR CAVALERA Quits SEPULTURA; ROY MAYORGA Steps In - Jan. 13, 2006

Drummer Igor Cavalera has left Brazilian thrashers SEPULTURA, BLABBERMOUTH.NET can exclusively reveal. Replacing Igor on the band's upcoming European trek will be none other than former SOULFLY skinsman Roy Mayorga.

Mayorga, who has yet to rehearse with SEPULTURA, spent quite a bit of time jamming with SEPULTURA guitarist Andreas Kisser in preparation for the recently released "Roadrunner United: The All-Star Sessions" CD and the subsequent Roadrunner 25th anniversary concert, which took place last month in New York City.

When asked if his stint with SEPULTURA will extend itself beyond the band's upcoming trek, Mayorga told BLABBERMOUTH.NET that it's too early to tell, but indicated that he hoped to "ride it out for as long as" possible.

At press time, there has been no official word on what Igor's future plans are. However, what is known is that he is currently awaiting the birth of his fourth child — his first with his new girlfriend following a split with his wife of 10 years, Monika, in 2004.

SEPULTURA's European tour with IN FLAMES is scheduled to kick off March 12 in Oslo, Norway. The band's new album, "Dante XXI" (featuring Cavalera), is scheduled for release in North America on March 14 via SPV USA.

Holy shit. They might be done after that tour then. RIP Sepultura. :(

Igor Cavalera is taking a break from Brazilian thrashers SEPULTURA to spend time with his new wife while they await the birth of their first child together, but he has no intention of leaving the band, the drummer told BLABBERMOUTH.NET Friday night.

Cavalera, who recently remarried after splitting up with his wife of 10 years, Monika, says that he wants to stay at home in Sao Paulo, Brazil before his fourth child is born (he has three kids with his first wife, while his new bride has another child from a previous relationship) and insists that he gave the rest of the band his blessing to seek out a temporary replacement in time for the group's upcoming European tour with IN FLAMES.

Former SOULFLY drummer Roy Mayorga, who played with Igor's brother Max for several years in the late '90s and again in 2001-2003, has been enlisted to do the European tour, with the possibility that he will stick around for further touring activities beyond the spring.

When asked point-blank if he has in fact quit the group or if he has any intentions of leaving the band, Igor told BLABBERMOUTH.NET, "No, man," before explaining that he would rather not tour right now than be in a position where he is forced to go on the road without having his heart in it 100 percent.

SEPULTURA's European tour with IN FLAMES is scheduled to kick off March 12 in Oslo, Norway. The band's new album, "Dante XXI" (featuring Cavalera), is scheduled for release in North America on March 14 via SPV USA.

I'm glad he hasn't quit. They need Max back. Chaos AD was very good, but not as good as Arise or Beneath The Remains.

Max has said he wouldn't rule out a reunion, therefore I am glad Igor hasn't quit.

They were a great live band with Green, so I would love to see them on a reunion tour playing the classics one day.

I feel sorry for Green though, the band often gets a bagging since he joined, but he isn't bad at all. Kinda like Blaze being awesome on The X Factor but people hating him anyway.
