The laws of nature state that for every thread on loofahs, there must be a thread unveiling unexplored metal to the masses. My brethren, I present to you fine folk, a slab of progressive metal in the vein of Akerfeldt and Co. Comparisons withheld, Forlorn may rival anything post MAYH. This mayhemic melancholia comes with a full frontal pelvic assault. Rock out with your cock out, as Ikuinen Kaamos presents a conceptual piece surrounding the tale of a man coming to grips with a slaying he committed during his prime. Now in the twilight of his existence, tormented by his deed, and questioning his place and relevance in the cosmos, he tries to make sense of it all before the descension of his final sunset. Acoustics sparsely intermingle with voracious blasting sections to tie the rise and fall of emotions felt with the soul of a man who has nothing but borrowed time. While many sub-genres surface during the course of this 53 minute magnifique conception, the bulk of the material drives on a black metal rail, taking doom, progressive, and folk signals from the grand conductor of carnage, Sir Juhani, while the vocalist Risto wails like a man beckoning a black lung. Yes, an album which intersperses acoustic passages without going to the clean vocal well. Who would have thunk it?
