It's purpose is for band related stuff. Touring, back stage, on stage, recordings etc.

At first I wanted a dslr like a canon t3i or panasonic gh2 but can't jusify spending that much.

I was looking at the zoom q3hd and I'm quite pleAsed. Though some lighting has that "cell phone" look from the videos I've seen. I'd love to change the DOF like a dslr but without the dslr price... Possible?

Those sony mini dslrs have piqued my interest but i have no idea how good they are. Seems like they might be an awesome choice. I've just started getting into photography a bit and am learning the basics with my Nikon D3100.

To get something decent you have to go with a superzoom, but they aren't worth it since just a little more will get you a DSLR.

One way to save money is to get the T2I BODY ONLY, which is the exact same camera as the t3i except a few features like articulating monitor. Since you are buying the body you don't have to pay for the dreadful kit lens. You can then get a canon USM 50mm 1.8 for about 100 dollars which has better image quality than the kit lens by far anyway.

Body only:

If this was a personal camera, yes I'd have a t3i right now. But it'll be the band whore camera that will be continuously rolling. :(

I can pick up a canon fd 50mm f1.4 for 75ish and a micro 3/4 to fd adapter for 20 bucks. shallow DOF!

Then a zoom h1 for damn impressive audio for 100 bucks.

If your doing video, check out the Canon HV20, can get one for $200 on ebay and shoot good looking 24p HD. I've been looking at picking one up. You can add a ton of shit and convert it to use 35mm lenses for low DOF and shit. DSLR is too expensive for me and you can only shoot one 12min clip at a time.

DOF adapters = ruin clarity

I'll keep my GF2, hope for a hack and get a canon FD 50mm f1.4 w/ adapter in the meantime.

Not the best in low light, no external mic, pretty good video, getting a 50mm and 28 lens and adapter for DOF and a zoom H1 for awesome audio on the run.

But camera kit for 275 brand new from best buy? Can't fucking beat that. no fucking way
