I'm suprised no one has mentioned this yet..

I don't know why the fuck everyone hates Brave New World!

It's classic Maiden. It stands right up there with "Piece of Mind," "Number of the Beast," "Powerslave," and all the other classic Maiden albums, IMO.
Oh come on, wake up! Just.... LISTEN! The only thing that makes BNW better than Virtual XI and The X-factor are the vocals, OK, the songs are a bit better too, it's quite an enjoyable album, but "right up there with "Piece of Mind", "Number of the Beast", "Powerslave," and all the other classic Maiden albums", NO WAY! Saying that is an insult to those classic albums.

The production is another thing, it totally lacks power, it's empty, it sounds like a demo (there's supposed to be 3 guitars, where's the super heavy, phat guitar sound then??), just compare it to the 80's albums, the gap is huge! Where's the big sound required for a killer Maiden album, the production is very weak, definitely doesn't live up to Shirley's reputation either, didn't he produce Dream Theater and all?

Allright, I'll admit that it's not on par with Number of the Beast, Powerslave, and Piece of Mind. But, it's better than the really uninspired late Dickinson albums "No Prayer for the Dying," and "Fear of the Dark."

The one main thing that Maiden REALLY needs to do is, like 7_dying_trees mentioned, is DITCH Janick Gers. He doesn't know a thing about creating dynamics. To him every guitar solo needs to be a competition of technicality, and he REALLY detracts from the songs.

I actually think "No Prayer..." is not a bad album at all, there's some not-so-good songs like Hooks In You and Bring Your Daughter, but the other songs are excellent I think, it lacks some depth but all in all I like it. Better than BNW too, but that's just my opinion. Fear Of The Dark is quite an OK album too.

His playing never disturbed me, but his moves on stage are a bit "gay" I think, that would be the only reason for me to ditch him.
