The band finally released the new singer name, her picture some more info and the first single "Eva".

Here's the pic:

As for the song, think about Within Temptation after "Mother Earth", with a less angelical voice and in slow tempo ballad =

Like everything I will have to listen to the whole album but right now my expectations are as good as with Metallica. Just keep listening to the old material and dismiss the band :Smug:

NP: Abandoned - 'Feel The Fire'

LMAO... he looks like EL ZORRO with that hat and the way his facial hair is and the eyeliner

I've been saying for months that I was sick of the "Nightwish drama" yes I like the band... but after all the BS I am not running to hear the samples... perhaps when I get around to it

I never could get into Nightwish... i tried when i bought their album "wishmaster" i believe.. the only female fronted bands I like are Chastain and Lacuna Coil...

There are samples of three more songs available here. Sounds like quality stuff to me, Eva is pretty boring but so is every other Nightwish ballad. I'm not sure about the singer though, she sounds a lot more "straight-forward" and accessible than Tarja which could work either for or against them in the long run. Who knows? Maybe the band knows since they picked her out of hundreds of candidates after all. It's not like they have any underground credibility left to protect at this point so they can evolve whichever way they want.

This being the viewpoint of a "casual" NW fan.

No more Nightwish for me. Century Child and Wishmaster were great albums, but one gets tired of the style after awhile. I won't be getting their albums any more.

Ditto/Ditto/Ditto.

Besides that, I fail to see what exactly is old school about Nightwish. Please enlighten me.

We tend not to talk about oldschool "only" here, also classic based Metal is discussed now and than...
Nightwish is (or was) for me the only Gothic style band that interested me a bit, mostly the songs with very big orchestral parts. I will have a listen at the new one, but have no special expectations for it.... Well, going to take a shower now and off to see Trouble !!

I already got that.:) As a matter of fact, I have the first three NW-albums (bought the first one before the whole Tarja-craziness took the band into other hemispheres of popularity). What I don't see is the connection with old school metal.

Oceanborn is hard to beat when it comes to catchiness and to-the-point songwriting imho. But old school? Sorry, I don't hear it. Leaning toward neoclassical stuff, yes.

And for me, Sunday is Trouble-day!:) Hope you had a great show in Den Bosch!

I think he pretty already told you that in this forum we do not only discuss Old School metal bands & the modern ones that sound like them... we also like to discuss non Old school bands ala NightWish among others who don't sound Old School...

on another note this new singer is as cute as Tarja... for some reason you rarely see ugly lead female singers in metal bands especially in classical influenced gothic metal bands...

I'll admit that Eva sounds like nothing special, but it is a goth metal ballad...and without Tarja there is nothing to make it sound different than everyone else in the genre. The other song *blips* sound more promising, but I'm afraid this new singer is going to draw them backward to their competition (Within Temptation, Epica, etc). I'm not a huge Tarja worshiper, but her voice was unique and added a different flavor from the norm. Without that, Nightwish is really going to have to deliver musically (and they have shown moments of brilliance) just to break even.

I am a Nighwish fan (own all their studio albums), but I enter this one with extreme trepidation. I'm expecting the worst and hoping for the best...

NP: Brian Setzer Orchestra

And he should make more Tarot albums.

I vote for that too :headbang:

Like TSO I'm a fan of the old albums, the first three deliver totally to me, CC is a bit weake to me but "Once" is baaaaaad.

So no I don't know if i'm going to follow them anymore as it happened to me with Within Temptation. I like female fronted bands or female bands (Girslchool, Rock Goddess) but they have to deliver and most of them are not doing it for a long time. I'm much more interested to see what Dunwich will release than to see what Nightwish or Sinergy will bring.

NP: Aerosmith - Livin' On The Edge

I got to like Nightwish in spite of the vocals, not because of them. When I first heard NW, I couldn't get past the operatic voice. After some time, I tried and again and really loved the music behind the vocals. Over time, I grew to like Tarja, but it had to grow on me. Now, I think her voice made the band special, but it wasn't what attracted me in the first place.

My point? It's the music that matters for this band (and for so many others as well). There are a few bands in which the vocals defines the entire band (Falconer), but many others can get past a new vocalist. I've liked the last few NW albums, and I'll certainly give the new one a good chance.

I'll reserve judgement until I've actually heard the new album, and yes I'm planning on buying it when it comes out. When Tarja left/was fired I thought that they were crazy and that would be the end of the band. But after hearing song samples I realize that the band didn't hire a Tarja clone as that would be almost impossible to find, I mean how many classically trained female opera singers even like metal? Her voice is more "normal" not operatic and I think this will help in having the songs lean more towards the metal side (I hope) instead of the neo-classical side. Also, this new singer is a more metal chick since she's been in other metal bands before this unlike Tarja who practically fell into metal and who I'm guessing will go back to classical opera.

I heard the song and hated it. This reminds me the Tarja Turunen solo album (the christmas one) but even slower.
I wait till the whole album's out, who knows...

That "Eva" song is awful. The other samplers I heard are just average. The only Nightwish album I like is "Oceanborn". Besides, they are so booooooooring playing live...

New singer doesn´t fit with Nightwish music. However, I like a lot her previous band, Alyson Avenue, a hard AOR band with two interesting albums.
