In-flames studio episodes (New 2011 album)

Well, labels tried watermarked promo cds before but that ruins the enjoyment of the songs, so it affects the review as well.
I heard an idea about code protected promos (non physical products) so if the journalist leaks the album they'll know who is responsible.

Considering it leaked a week before release, that's pretty damn good. Usually things get ripped a month or two before release, but only a week? That's cutting it pretty close!

^This. Major albums are always going to get leaked before release, it seems inevitable. But the real triumph is in how close the leak will be to the actual release. I think a lot of people will just wait a week and get it. If they had to wait a month on the other hand, probably not...

*pirating*

Don't play it if you want to wait for the actual release :p

Okay, I have to rant about this... I haven't heard the full album yet since it won't be released until June 21st and I don't want to download it, but I watched the four studio videos and the first single "Deliver Us". After watching those, I can only say that the new In Flames album will most likely suck and disappoint me even without hearing it. There are a few reasons why I came to this conclusion:

Pretty much all the In Flames albums from "Jester Race" to "Come Clarity" were quite awesome in my opinion. Some albums had a bit weaker moments, but in general the albums were great. But for some reason I was really disappointed with "A sense of purpose". Didn't like it at all when it came out. Only one good song in the whole album.

When you watch the studio videos for the new album, the guys are in a studio of dreams, but still they NEVER smile when they are IN the studio. At ANY point of the four videos. FOUR videos. Anders did smile once, but he was making coffee. And he did laugh once too, but I think it was just honestly an accident.

Also the fact that the videos clearly show that the band went to the studio without doing proper pre-production and went there to write the songs and rehearse the album. Even tho they own the studio it doesn't really matter. It is the exact thing how the Audio Engineers and Producers tell newbie bands not to do: "Don't go to the studio to rehearse and write songs. Excluding Björn the rest of the band had never heard the songs". They should've gone to the rehearsal space (or the live room of the studio), write the songs together and after that go to the producer and into the studio. And the guys honestly look like they are not enjoying making the album because of this. In Finland we have this saying "naama on kuin norsunvitulla" and that is exactly how they look. Serious Business(tm)

Also since Jesper is no longer in the band, I have a similar feeling in my gut about this as when Head left Korn. You lose a writing partner of over 10 years and the band just never sounds the same after that. And the song writing just sucked on the post-Head albums.

BUT the main reason why I think the album will suck is the single. Oh my fucking god "Deliver Us" sucks. The production sounds okay, but what the fuck is it with the chorus? It should explode, not implode. I can understand that it's targeted more for the radio, but the song still sucks.

Album's cool, not their best but better than ASOP and on Come Clarity's level for sure. They took the sound they had on ASOP and made it work. It's not another Clayman, nor another RTR, but it's good nonetheless.

Haters gonna hate.

I have to agree 100% on this one.. the vibe seems uninspired and low.. I don't think I could record in that situation.. and even more so, without having many songs and just getting Bjorne to do it all etc? That's so alien to me, I mean, I get it.. but I don't see how at this point it's a benefit to a band of such calibre and years behind them... And the last point, without Jesper... it's another issue entirely!

I'm with you but I think that Bjorn always wrote all the music (with Jesper in the past) so the other members never did so much in the writing process. The bass is pretty basic and I've never seen Daniel laughing in general.
Anyway, Reroute in my opinion is their best album...pretty modern, cool riffs and lot of catchy choruses.
Maybe the new songs are not so special because Bjorn can't headbang anymore :D

The 5th studio report is up, some amazing strings in there. This album is actually really good Deviler Us and the title track.. are alright the last 3 songs are outstanding original.. but still have great In Flames greatness in there i think i might actually have to buy this!

Well now that I've heard the album at my friends uncle's cousins daughter/sister (but also their) grandmother's house I'm just totally in love with it. Def buying it, also gonna try to catch a moment of them live this summer

direct quotes from the video #2:

Peter: "Björn wrote the whole album this time music wise"
Björn: "When Jesper left, it was different, I wanted the other guys' input way more than I ever did before"

edit: btw, looks like Niclas Engelin is the new guitarist of In Flames.
