As i posted in the amon amarth thread, i think these guys have an amon/november's doom kind of sound. but in the song "disengagement" from 5:00 to 5:45, don't you think that riff sounds like a fair judgement? the tone, the ringing notes, the effects. just gave me that similar feeling. loved it.

Yea it's very similar, but I think Niilo is a big fan of Opeth so it's quite understandable. They still make very different music in general.

mediocre re-hash. i liked them more when they were called Dark Tranquillity...

I liked them at one point (one of my first posts were about them ,i think). But they got boreing after about a week. When i listen to them, I feel the urge to listen to Dark Tranquillity or Opeth. I doubt that was the intent of the song writers in insomnium.
